What are your thoughts on Phoebe?
It's currently the only name DH and I can agree on. I like it - I like the sound, the meaning and the fact that it's a name with a history but no religious connections - but I'm worried about the lack of nicknames and concerned other people might think it's a bit posh/wet. My family don't seem very convinced by it, but I know they'd come around once it was attached to an actual baby!

I think DH only likes it because we jokingly call each other and our DS Bean, and he thinks that Phoe-Bean is cute and funny! He's difficult to choose names with - just let's me make a load of suggestions until he latches onto one and then thinks it's a done deal.

Middle name is likely to be Alexandra (a family name)

Thank you for your opinions and suggestions.

Phoebe Alexandra sounds lovely

Very nice.

IHeartKingThistle · 29/08/2019 09:17

It's fab.

Many, many people can't spell it though!

Colourfulest · 29/08/2019 09:17

Love name OP! I also love Phoe-bean Grin

Colourfulest · 29/08/2019 09:18

Lovely*

ToftheB · 29/08/2019 09:38

Thank you all. Very reassuring.

I struggled a bit with the spelling (I'm dyslexic and crap at spelling anyway!) But- hopefully - as it's nice and short, it shouldn't be too painful to correct people.

Nickname for all Phoebes I know is Pheebs

daisypond · 29/08/2019 10:10

Phoebe is lovely.

Honeybingbong · 29/08/2019 10:18

Really beautiful name. Looks and sounds really lovely with Alexandra.

pooopypants · 29/08/2019 10:32

In Greek it means 'radiant', it also means pure in another language but that one escapes me right now

My DD's middle name so I'm biased but I think it's a lovely name

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 29/08/2019 11:08

I love it.

Phoebe Alexandra is gorgeous. Nicknames, if they happen, occur naturally and a lot of the time have little to do with a given name anyway. Nobody needs a nickname or to use a diminutive so I wouldn't let a lack of one for Phoebe be much of a factor when deciding.

Buddyelf · 29/08/2019 12:35

Love it!

Oneforposy7 · 29/08/2019 13:39

Lovely!

ToftheB · 29/08/2019 14:10

Looks like it's number 21 in the 2018 baby name data. Hopefully that's not too popular... I don't mind it not being unique - my DS's name is mid 20s and we've not met many others, and my name is dead common but I like it! - but do you know loads of little Phoebes?

PrincessLouis · 29/08/2019 16:18

I like it too. Plus Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) is a good association

AverageMummy · 29/08/2019 18:15

Number 21 was 0.29% of babies if that helps.... or statistically about 1 leg of a Phoebe per class? Grin

devilishlygood · 30/08/2019 07:08

I know a few Phoebes...they’re of various ages but all flubby and unfortunately very unattractive, for some reason!! 😂😂

I’m afraid I do find the sounds a bit wet...I think that comes from knowing two different phoebes who used whiney, baby voices to appear ‘cute’. And one sucked her thumb. In public. At 24!! 🤮

The name has nice meanings, is of Greek mythology descent and therefore has ethereal ambience to those who know none, it is very popular.

MissHenty · 31/08/2019 15:12

My son is 5 so we’ve met many children through the years but haven’t come across a phoebe yet in real life (at school or playgroups). I’ve know a friend of a friend recently had a phoebe. I think it’s a lovely name that’s not too unusual but not all that common either

NameChange30 · 31/08/2019 15:16

I love it!

Bit late now but I always think it's wise not to discuss names with family and friends so you're not too influenced by their opinion.

Much better to be influenced by strangers on mumsnet instead Grin

BeanBag7 · 31/08/2019 15:23

I like Phoebe. I know one who is nearly 2 and her nickname is "Bee" (so cute)
It is getting popular which is a good thing as people are more likely to be familiar with the spelling/pronounciation
