Unfortunate initials

Baby will be born in 2 weeks, we’ve had our name picked since before she was conceived but have just swung to another name recently. We’ve decided to stick with the first name and have the new name as a middle name.

The problem is, her initials would be FAP 🙈

I’m thinking, how often do you even use initials like that Hmm but also it’s pretty unfortunate.

Would I be setting my baby up for a life time of taunts?

Is FAP a thing? Its hardly a common word, I wouldnt worry about it. How often do you go by your initials anyway

Aquamarine1029 · 24/08/2019 16:20

Oh dear. I think I would choose a different middle name.

Pinkblueberry · 24/08/2019 16:20

What’s FAP? Confused

Bumpingbumping · 24/08/2019 16:21

@beanbag7 It’s a term for... “males pleasuring themselves” shall we say. And quite commonly used amongst millennials it seems. I’ve mentioned it to 2 friends and they’ve burst out laughing

Fap is like an online word for wanking. I think the amount of people who would know what fapping is would be really small tbh.

Bumpingbumping · 24/08/2019 16:22

Please go to urban dictionary and type in fap for further assistance 😂

Never heard of FAP so it wouldn't worry me. If it bothers you maybe add in another middle name as well

CatSmize · 24/08/2019 16:23

A) I don't even know what FAP means
B) We never use our full initials for anything! I never knew any of my school friends' middle names, let alone their full initials so I wouldn't worry about a life of taunting!

GrapefruitGin · 24/08/2019 16:23

Never heard of FAP before! I’m considered a millennial.

Bumpingbumping · 24/08/2019 16:25

I’m so glad so many people don’t know what it means! Fap it is Star

CatSmize · 24/08/2019 16:26

Cross post. I'm also a millennial and never heard of it. By the time your DC is at secondary school, it's very unlikely that the same vernacular will be used as nowadays!

EmpressLesbianInChair · 24/08/2019 16:26

If it really bothers you could you switch the names round to get AFP but still call her the F name?

DownWentTheFlag · 24/08/2019 16:27

This sort of thing makes me worried that I’ve saddled my kids with ridiculous initials without even realising.
But surely now you know, you can’t use them...

Cabezona · 24/08/2019 16:29

I really don't want to be a bearer of bad news but enough people know what it means and those of your DC generation will.

It's unfortunate but I don't think it will be an issue. By the time initials are used, full initials at that, they will be an adult and ang laugh

Beautiful3 · 24/08/2019 16:32

My friends initials are wee! It hasnt bothered him though.

Allyo19 · 24/08/2019 16:56

I knew a guy with initials STD. Apparently no one had picked up on it in his 42 years, until he filled out a CRB form in my office.

sluj · 24/08/2019 17:05

Just add another middle name

Rainbowknickers · 24/08/2019 17:27

My mother lost 3 babies before having me
Babies no2/3 would have had ‘bra’ as initials!
Now that’s not a word that would go away!
I didn’t even know what fap was til about 3 minutes ago
I’d either add another name leave one out jiggle two about or just leave it as it is
A mate of mine had middle names that when her first name was shortened they spelt it-that caused a lot of fun when she got older and had to use initials for work/bank etc
I.e Kiera (middle names Kim Isla Emily Rachel Amy surname)
People took the piss out of that!
I don’t think anyone would even notice
My son is 16 now and the penny has just dropped that his first two names spell out bj!

Michellelovesizzy · 24/08/2019 17:36

My dad initinals r BJ we take piss all the every family party it come up and he gets laughed at lol

Violetparis · 24/08/2019 17:41

I wouldn't, I think if you have doubts now about your choice you will probably always have a niggling regret/worry about it. Like others have suggested, add another name or don't have a middle name.

Thegracefuloctopus · 24/08/2019 17:54

Never heard fap before, and I'm also apparently a millennial. I'd go with it. Likely hood is it won't catch on too much anyway

xJune88 · 24/08/2019 17:59

I'm 25 never heard of itx

thebakerwithboobs · 24/08/2019 18:13

I have a friend with the first initial T and surname (before marriage) was Watt making her a TWatt. The part that makes me giggle most is that her brother is called Thomas. Her mum genuinely did not notice what they had done until my mate was in double figures (and being tormented at school!) we still call her TWatt now, to be fair.

posycosy5 · 24/08/2019 18:16

I am FAG

Fiona Ann G....

Could it be any worse?

Goingbacktokansascity · 24/08/2019 18:20

Friend has initials STD - seamus thomas d and we have made fun of him on several occasions. Initials were a consideration for us, our little boy has lots of personalised tracksuits etc for nursery with his initials embroidered on, it was a deciding factor when choosing his name: we loved the name hamish. Family name we needed to use as middle name was Arthur. His initials would have been HAM so we changed some things about, much nicer initials now!
