Almost at the end of my pregnancy and DH and I couldn’t agree on any names so we decided to ask DC and DSC to give us two names for their new sister each and we picked our favourite of the two names they each gave us which are:

Coco
Hermione
Esme
Eva
Cleo
Margot

So can you critique that list and say what you like/dislike about each name! Thank you Smile

CoCo I feel like this could be a nickname for Nicole not my type

Hermione it just reminds me of Harry Potter it is nice though

Esme just seems too common I don’t really like it

Cleo now I like this it’s so cute

Margot not for me I am not a fan of older names though

I’d go with cleo Smile

I like Cleo! Cleo, Margot or Eva :)

Cashew1 · 24/08/2019 16:57

Margot

PreschoolPlease · 24/08/2019 17:01

I'd go with Eva.

Coco is too nicknamey and doesn't feel like a name for a grown woman. Cleo is better but not to my taste.

Hermione and Margot you may have pronunciation issues and people needing them spelt. I agree that Hermione makes me think of Harry Potter. Out of the two I prefer Margot.

I know an Esme, it is Ez-mee or Ez-May? Again pronunciation issues. It's not to my taste but prefer it to Coco and Cleo.

Doilooklikeatourist · 24/08/2019 17:05

I like Coco ( a quick google tells me Coco Chanel real name was Gabrielle )
Also like Margot
That’s my top 2

userabcname · 24/08/2019 17:08

Oh I love Hermione - campaigned hard for it to be on our shortlist for DC1 (who turned out to be a boy). Please pick it - it's beautiful and so under-used!
Esme and Eva - very popular, I'm honestly finding them a bit boring now but if I had to pick I'd go for Esme over Eva.
Cleo and Margot - I like both of these, probably like Cleo a bit more.
Coco - this is sweet but I'd use it as a nn (maybe for Cleo?!).

pilotedgrey · 24/08/2019 17:14

I do like Eva but I’m worried it will get mixed up with all the Evies/Eves/Evas/Edies etc

I feel like you could mispronounce any name really and we don’t want to be constricted IYSWIM Grin

The only one I like is Cleo

Coco sounds daft - something you'd name a pet. The rest are just a bit 'meh'

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/08/2019 17:21

I love Coco but Id go with Nicole or Nicola on her BC. My dd was almost a Nicole. Until it dawned on me that her initials would have been NOB.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/08/2019 17:23

I also like Esme, but Esmay not Esmee.
Eva is pretty, and more sophisticated and classy than Evie

AverageMummy · 24/08/2019 19:01

I’m sorry this is completely utterly irrelevant but how do 2 people (assuming that’s what’s the letters mean) give 2 names each, you then narrow down to favourites & end up with a list of 6? Such a silly thing to be baffled by but I can’t keep rereading it & not ask Grin

Coco - ridiculous sorry
Hermione - nice if you’re ok with HP references
Esme - like
Eva - ok
Cleo - love
Margot - dislike

LarkDescending · 24/08/2019 19:13

She didn’t say she asked two people - two categories of people!

I like Cleo and Eva from the list.

missmouse101 · 24/08/2019 19:17

Cleo and Esme lovely, Margot truly hideous.

Yika · 24/08/2019 19:17

They are all nice but Cleo stands out to me.

Whattodo20192 · 24/08/2019 19:17

I like Eva and Cleo but would choose Cleo as it is less common

flumpybear · 24/08/2019 19:26

Cleo is lovely.
Coco is trying to hard to be chic but really isn't ... NN only for me

Others are ok but cleo is the best

burritofan · 24/08/2019 19:31

Coco - brilliant
Hermione / Harry Potter
Esme - loads of em about, boring
Eva - blah blah
Cleo - brilliant
Margot - I have real affection for this name and I think it offers less to live up to than Coco or Cleo? Imagine being called Coco or Cleo, which are KILLER names, but being a bit of an introvert or anxious. Margot has more room to grow

victoria0132 · 24/08/2019 19:33

I like Margot or Hermione 😊

OneKeyAtATime · 24/08/2019 19:35

Eva for me

user1493494961 · 24/08/2019 19:37

Esme or Cleo. Don't like the others.

pilotedgrey · 24/08/2019 19:41

@AverageMummy No haha, the children came up with 2 names each and DH and I picked our joint favourite from each two names from each child and there’s the 6 Grin

OP posts:
pilotedgrey · 24/08/2019 19:44

Alright thanks all, I think DH and I are going to have another talk about it! I’ll suggest Cleo again as I love it and it seems to be the most universally popular out of the 6 here. Plus MIL loves it Wink

Cleo Margot.

Cleo's my stand-out favourite and although I think Margot's a bit faddy atm, they work well together.

Hermione is lovely but unfortunately ruined by HP.

Coco takes a hell of a lot of pulling off. Esme's a bit over-popular. Not keen on Eva - Eve's nicer.

Peachbubble · 24/08/2019 20:07

I like Cleo and Margot
