Boys names you don't really hear?

I'm expecting next year, we're not going to find out but I want to have some choice.

When pregnant with DS we had loads of girls names and no boys..

DS actually got named after the student nurse's son who helped me bf and had a little one, who was naughty like my little one (not latching on). But I had to see his face (sounds stupid) before we named him too.

So I like (could change) Frankie, Theo and Rowan. We liked Bear but my parents hate it..

I like meanings to names too, so something with a lovely meaning could swing it for me.

Thank you

I've got two boys and had limited names for them!
I like Innes and Torin.

RedCowboyBoots · 22/08/2019 21:58

You’re kidding, right? Bear has to be the worst boys’ name ever.

MissPepper8 · 22/08/2019 22:47

@RedCowboyBoots lots of those names are in my family already haha..

I don't know maybe I'm too picky? Im really struggling, even a middle name. I thought Thomas but that'd my sons middle name lol..

I like Matthew actually. Never thought of Matthew.

@MrsGilly1 my names Lucy and it literally means light lol x

My ds is Theodore, I often call him bear always have done. I think it is a lovely nn.

Poochnewbie · 22/08/2019 23:04

Theo/Theodore means God’s gift. Lovely meaning and beautiful name!

bert3400 · 22/08/2019 23:09

Theo is very common atm, give it another few months and it will the same as Archie / Alfie - every other kid

PonteLaCorona · 22/08/2019 23:12

Theodore is a lovely name.
Bear is a man who drinks his own wee.
(Or a terrifing animal that with decapitate you if it fancies it.)
But if that doesn't put you off, Theodore is a beautiful name that will give you an excuse to use Bear.
Edward works quite well for that purpose, too.

NameChange84 · 22/08/2019 23:12

Every second boy where I live is called Theodore, Theo, Ted or Teddy - it’s very common at the moment so avoid it if you want him to be the only one.

Laurence (Larry or Laurie)
Edmund (Ed or Ned)
Wilbur (Wilfred is getting popular)
Maurice
Maxwell
Tristan
Francis
Lucian
Ezekiel
Jeremiah
Nathaniel
Raife

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/08/2019 23:14

How about Edward and call him Bear as a nn?

PonteLaCorona · 22/08/2019 23:14

I love Nathaniel. I was not allowed to use that.

NameChange84 · 22/08/2019 23:14

If you like Matthew, how about Matthias?

Or Blair or Blaise as an alternative to Bear?

NameChange84 · 22/08/2019 23:16

Just remembered! Two outstanding boys I taught with names I’d not come across before or since...Troy and Horatio.

ejk10 · 22/08/2019 23:18

My son is Blaise and he is the only one of that name in his high school. He always gets comments on how unusual his name is - but it's not an 'out there' name either - if you see what I mean.

WorriedSENMum · 22/08/2019 23:23

Christopher, Melvyn, Clive, John, Martin. Basically Google 1960/70's boys names. Most of them won't have been popular since last century!

whattodo2019 · 22/08/2019 23:29

Monty
Ptolemy
Maximus
Issac
Isiah
Jonah
Hobart - Hobie
Humphrey

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 22/08/2019 23:31

Definitely not Bear.

Bear is not a name anyway.

CutsAndSnoozes · 22/08/2019 23:32

I was going to say Keith because it's one of those names which never seems to be attached to anyone stronger than a wet lettuce leaf so at least it's not used much.

Kevin. There's even a song by The Wedding Present called Give My Love To Kevin.
