Boys names you don't really hear?

I'm expecting next year, we're not going to find out but I want to have some choice.

When pregnant with DS we had loads of girls names and no boys..

DS actually got named after the student nurse's son who helped me bf and had a little one, who was naughty like my little one (not latching on). But I had to see his face (sounds stupid) before we named him too.

So I like (could change) Frankie, Theo and Rowan. We liked Bear but my parents hate it..

I like meanings to names too, so something with a lovely meaning could swing it for me.

Thank you

Isn’t Aubrey a girls name?

thebakerwithboobs · 25/08/2019 13:05

We have a Dashiel which, out of all our boys' names, is my favourite. People often mispronounce it (it's basically Daniel with an 'sh' in the middle but you often get Dash-eel) but he has shortened it to Dash since he was small so it doesn't really matter.

diddlediddle · 25/08/2019 13:29

@BrutusMcDogface Aubrey is traditionally a boys name.

Audrey is a girls name. Aubrey has been appropriated as a girls name in America.

Ludwig?

MissPepper8 · 25/08/2019 23:54

@Blossom28 I like Rohan, adding that. I like earthy names and it sounds earthy (maybe I'm weird) but I like Rowan too.

@PointlessUsername Malachy is something we won't have around our village, only thing is DH mum is a vicar and she'd get so annoying with the origin but I do like it x

I think @diddlediddle said Robin, I think that would go lovely with DS name but I've only ever heared girls called robin :/

Seriously spoilt for choice here, I don't think we'll have a problem naming if we have a boy. Thanks everyone :)

Theo/Theodore means God’s gift.

Theodore means God's gift, but Theo just means God. Just something to consider!
We have a Dominic - it's gone down very well.

diddlediddle · 26/08/2019 06:52

@MissPepper8

Robin Hood, Robin Williams, Robin Gibb, van Persie etc?

Certainly it is a unisex name, which I really like. Rowan is also unisex in a similar way. Robin can become Rob though, which is more traditionally masculine.

names.darkgreener.com/#robin

This link shows it is about 2/3 times more common for boys than girls in the U.K.

Good luck!

I always thought gavin was a cute name - - maybe coz it was name of my first crush aged 5--which you don't hear much of these days.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 02/09/2019 16:53

The problem with Rowan is its so similar to Roman and Ronan. All three names getting pretty popular (all in top 100 I think) and I’ve heard a lot of confusion at playgroup about which child is which name as everyone kept getting the three names mixed.

MissHenty · 03/09/2019 20:38

Same applies to Rohan

Mumoftwox · 03/09/2019 22:35

my son is Rowan and I haven't heard any others I love it! also think cillian is lovely but think it's on the rise..
