What do you think about Hermione for a little girl? I love it, and I love Harry Potter, DH warming to it slightly but still taking some convincing. Everyone else I've mentioned it to laughs

It's a nice enough name but I think for a long time to come it will always be associated with Hermione Granger.

I would choose something that can be her own name, not the name of a character she'll always be compared to. If you want to go all HP, choose a name of one of the lesser-known characters.

NotJustaDog · 21/08/2019 15:42

I think it's lovely. Plenty of boys called Harry and no one bats an eye.

CassianAndor · 21/08/2019 15:42

you really can't compare Harry with Hermione.

whenweallfallasleep · 21/08/2019 15:46

Hermione is a good character to be compared to, though, no?
I teach an 11 year old called Hermione, and none of her classmates make the HP link. I wonder if it's more my generation that do that?

I really like it, one I’d consider despite/because of Harry Potter. I think any name like that - one strongly associated with a character - quickly becomes totally normal when you actually know someone with that name. Eg. I know an Elektra (who is Greek) and that is just her name to me now.

ArtichokeAardvark · 21/08/2019 15:49

I love that name, but be careful with what it gets shortened to. Hermy? Mimi?

Oneforposy7 · 21/08/2019 15:51

Lovely name OP. Yes it will be associated with the character but that hasn't stopped parents of Juliets, Ophelias etc. Hermione is a great character to he associated with.

Colourfulest · 21/08/2019 15:51

I love it!

AravisTarkheena · 21/08/2019 15:52

I met an Arwen once as well - after you say it a few times it just seems like a nice name!

Colourfulest · 21/08/2019 15:52

And as you say, it's not a bad connection. Hermione is a strong, smart female character!

Sparklysunflower · 21/08/2019 15:53

Lovely name!

whenweallfallasleep · 21/08/2019 15:53

I like Hermi as a Nn and I was nearly a Mimi myself, so also quite like that nn. Both pretty

Sparklysunflower · 21/08/2019 15:53

It's a great association!

CassianAndor · 21/08/2019 15:59

sure, it's a great association but again, you can't compare it to Juliet, say. Maybe in 400 years time...!

I teach an 11 year old called Hermione, and none of her classmates make the HP link I really, really doubt that.

misspg08 · 21/08/2019 16:11

I went to school with someone called Elvis a few years ago- you get used to the name and I never even thought about Elvis Presley.

Peachbubble · 21/08/2019 17:48

I quite like it. There's Hermione Norris from Cold Feet too.

diddlediddle · 21/08/2019 17:50

Love it

BogglesGoggles · 21/08/2019 17:50

I think Harry Potter has ruined that name for at least the next 20-40 years.

userabcname · 21/08/2019 18:02

I love it

Bloodywasps · 21/08/2019 18:34

I hate it

Skyejuly · 21/08/2019 18:37

I love it. I know of 1 age 12. Lovely name

tirednhungry247 · 21/08/2019 18:38

Love it if I was middle to upper class and my daughter went to private school

Other than that don't do it

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/08/2019 18:38

I thought it was a lovely name long before Harry Potter.

Twickerhun · 21/08/2019 18:42

I love it but I’m biased

fattymumslim19 · 21/08/2019 18:54

Love it! And can be shortened to Minnie, gorgeous name!
