Mumsnet hated names that you like?

We all know mumsnet is full of opinions
“Chavvy” “Chavtastic”
“Doesn’t look good on CV”
“Not middle class”
“Council estate name”
“What if they want to be a lawyer or doctor?”
“Not a real name”
“Trying too hard to be different”
“So bland and boring”
“Too American”
(All things I’ve seen on threads over the years!)

So I want to know, what are some names that the majority of mumsnet HATE but you like?

For me it’s Grayson and Everly. They are two of my favourite names ever.

Araminta had quite a bit of abuse the other day and I've always liked it. Also hyphenated names, including my own.

TatianaLarina · 13/08/2019 21:38

‘Posh’ names, Greek names, forrin names are all fine by me.

MrsBertBibby · 13/08/2019 22:05

Kai. Nice name. Don't get the hate at all.

applepieicecream · 13/08/2019 22:10

Love Evie, and all the Ella / Ellie’s that everyone hates but Jaxon has to be the most hideous name of all time and Grayson fairly awful too.

Chantelle 🙈
Isla-Marie
Thea pronounced correctly (Taya instead of Theeeuh).
Jessie

Harrison

I have a boy Robin. This is wet according to MN

Tillygetsit · 13/08/2019 22:24

Cherry. To me it's sweet and fresh. To MN it's stripper Hmm

Antonin · 14/08/2019 01:25

Names I love like Rupert, Hugo, Orlando, Horatio and Araminta, Aphra, Cressida, are regarded by MN as being too middle class.

CeceSL · 14/08/2019 08:46

Honor ❤️

ReasonedCamper · 14/08/2019 08:54

MN is not one entity.

All names are liked / not liked by someone.

marmitelover84 · 14/08/2019 09:46

@ReasonedCamper
There are definitely names that the majority of mumsnet collectively dislike!

Ava and Kai.

AuntieStella · 14/08/2019 10:14

Tallulah and Kai

Probably quite a lot of others. But I think I'm a fairly typical poster as I dislike boys names on girls, and nearly every surname name (though know it's traditional for some)

itsabootyhole · 14/08/2019 10:26

I love American names, Bryson, brody, Callie, Remy. Mn hates them.

I love savannah, Scarlett, Starla, Talulah. Apparently these are stripper names 😂 funny that because when I went to Vegas and visited a strip club with dp the girls there were Hollie, Wendy and Lauren 😳 not a savannah or Scarlett in sight!

MindyStClaire · 14/08/2019 10:29

Conor, Aidan, Liam etc - lots of perfectly normal Irish boys' names (basically the Irish equivalent of James) are derided as "naughty boy names" on here.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/08/2019 10:52

Nevaeh

Krisskrosskiss · 14/08/2019 10:56

Myrtle... I love it so much and it's near universally hated.. my husband laughed out loud when I suggested it for our daughter... I googled it and it's been on here and was absolutely slated
I also like Germanic names like Gertrude, Gudrun, Hilda... they dont go down well on here
And when I was naming my daughter I suggested Topaz in here and apparently ALL precious stone names are stripper names... (what about Beryl tho?!)

marmitelover84 · 14/08/2019 15:11

There is a thread atm about the name Sawyer - that’s also getting quite a bit of abuse although I rather like it!

Sometimes I nAme can be nice on one person but horrible on another person.
I don’t hate Jayden as much as I did since I met a lovely one.

whattodowith · 14/08/2019 15:44

Athena is lovely, there’s one in my DD’s class and I think it’s a truly gorgeous name.

I actually agree with MN on most names. Jayden/Kayden/Jackson (Jaxon is even worse) and Riley are amongst my least favourite names. I hate Marley too. I know someone who has two sons called Harley and Marley Confused.

gearandloathing · 14/08/2019 15:47

I quite like the sound of Nevaeh.. but not the weird backwards heaven thing

Meltedicicle · 14/08/2019 15:49

I love Tyler!

littlepooch · 14/08/2019 15:54

Amber and Savannah - chav

Also Rocco for a boy - chav again

Thea pronounced correctly (Taya instead of Theeeuh).

Totally missing the point of the thread here but I know a Thea (in her 70s not of the recent Thea popularity) and she pronounces her name Theeahh, never knew it was meant to be pronounced any other way! Shock

TheYeaSayer · 14/08/2019 19:44

Thea pronounced correctly (Taya instead of Theeeuh)

Thea is a Greek name, surely? Female version of Theo, from theos meaning God. It’s spelt in Greek with a theta, so is pronounced “th”

It’s also a short form of Theodora or Dorothea, which have a “th” sound.

“Taya” may be an alternative pronunciation, but it’s not the one, correct one.
