Baby number 5 for me. Would really like not to have a name that will be shared with others in it’s class at school (I know you can never be certain but, I do TRY to avoid it!), and I also try to avoid anything too common as we have a VERY common surname. Opinions on our current shortlist please.

Patrick
Hector

Quentin
Kenny

Zebulon - Zeb
Vincent - Vinnie
Dexter

Silas
Dominic

Agatha
Marilla - Milla
Adelaide - Addie

Delia
Susannah - Sukie

Meredith
Miriam
Orla

Stella
Robin

Patrick - this is one of those names I have literally no opinion on.
Hector - depending on where you live this might not be as rare as you think
Quentin - I quite like Quentin
Kenny - not a name
Zebulon - Zeb - Don't hate it
Vincent - Vinnie - really quite popular so probably not what you're after
Dexter - see above
Silas - I don't love it, but it's fine
Dominic - see Vincent and Dexter

Agatha - Christie?
Marilla - Milla - Anne of Green Gables fan?
Adelaide - Addie - more popular than you'd think
Delia - I don't like it
Susannah - Sukie - don't like it
Meredith - makes me think of Grey's Anatomy but I actually don't hate it
Miriam - I really like the name Miriam
Orla - very popular where I live
Stella - I love this name
Robin - I'd say this is the masculine spelling with Robyn being feminine

Frith2013 · 13/08/2019 14:33

Patrick - dull
Hector - ok
Quentin - ok
Kenny - South Park or Rogers.
Zebulon - Zeb - sounds like a model of electric pylon
Vincent - Vinnie - no
Dexter - a type of cow. No.
Silas - bearable
Dominic - no

Frith2013 · 13/08/2019 14:36

Agatha - ok
Marilla - Milla - no
Adelaide - Addie - ok
Delia - Smith
Susannah - Sukie - like Sukie as a stand alone name
Meredith - only if pronounced the Welsh way
Miriam - ok
Orla - extremely popular round here
Stella - ugly, spikey name
Robin - boy’s name

CakeRattleandRoll · 13/08/2019 14:42

Silas and Miriam are my favourites. Miriam was on my short-list for DD.

Lavenderblues · 13/08/2019 16:39

Love Quentin and Dominic for a boy.

And Stella and Miriam for a girl.

Pippilangstrumpfie · 13/08/2019 16:42

For a fifth child Quentin is perfect! We have one who is a third child but we loved the name regardless Smile

Of your girls suggestions I really like Miriam and Susannah.

Peachbubble · 13/08/2019 16:51

Patrick - not keen
Hector - love this, but most seem to dislike
Quentin - no

Zebulon - Zeb - no
Vincent - Vinnie - no
Dexter - not sure
Silas - no
Dominic - no

Agatha - like this
Marilla - Milla - love this
Adelaide - Addie - not sure

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 13/08/2019 16:57

Quintin/Quin is quite in vogue at the moment as is Agatha as people return to old traditional names.

Patrick is fairly common.
Vincent is usally shortened to Vinny and not totally uncommon.

I haven't heard any Hectors or Zebuluns

My boys list for unusual: Hector, Silas, Dexter

Girls: Robin and Orla and Delia are not totally uncommon (although love Orla)

All the rest are fairly uncommon.

user1493494961 · 13/08/2019 16:57

Silas. Patrick or Dominic. Meredith or Susannah.

Theonewiththeblonde · 13/08/2019 18:29

I like Patrick, Miriam and Adelaide

MrsBertBibby · 13/08/2019 21:41

Miriam is a great name. Best on your list.
Delia is nice but urgh Delia Smith. How about Celia, or Della. Or Madella.
Stella is good but I think getting popular.

Quentin is overshadowed for me by a) Tarantino and b) Letts. Can't see past them.
Oh my God! They killed Kenny!
Maybe Silas.
Dominic is nice but a bit dull.

All the rest are just nope.

How about Conrad? Great name.

tabbiemoo · 13/08/2019 21:56

From your boys names I like - Hector, Silas, Dexter and Dominic (although hate the nn Dom)
From the girls - Agatha (I knew one with cute nn Taggy), Adelaide (or Adaline is also lovely), Sukie (on its own, I wouldn’t bother with Susannah) and Stella.

bridgetreilly · 13/08/2019 23:19

Patrick: I really like this. I do know one 3yo Patrick, but it's not that common
Hector: Also good, and not common
Quentin: Not a huge fan, but not common
Kenny: No
Zebulon - Zeb: No. Also, I think it's Zebulun. Maybe Zebedee instead?
Vincent - Vinnie: No.
Dexter: Really no.
Silas: Maybe. It's not a happy name though.
Dominic: Fine, but I think it's getting more popular.

I'd choose Patrick or Hector.

Agatha: Yes! I love this and it's definitely not common.
Marilla - Milla: I like Marilla, but would use Rilla for a nn.
Adelaide - Addie: Not a fan, especially of Addie.
Delia: Smith.
Susannah - Sukie: I like Susannah, but prefer Susie or even Zanna.
Meredith: No
Miriam: Lovely.
Orla: Growing in popularity, not my favourite.
Stella: Quite like this
Robin: And this.

I would choose Agatha or Miriam.

Robs20 · 13/08/2019 23:24

Love Quentin! Most of your boy names are unusual although I know a baby Hector.
Also love Sukie! Think your girls names are less unusual (Stella and Adelaide in particular).

joystir59 · 13/08/2019 23:51

Finch rather than Robin

OwlBeThere · 14/08/2019 00:33

Patrick- its ok, i HATE pat though, so it would be a no based on that.
Hector - not my thing, but its not massively offensive to me either.
Quentin - same as hector
Kenny - really don't like this
Zebulon - Zeb - this is a bit out there, but i don't hate it!
Vincent - Vinnie- no.
Dexter - probably my favourite of your picks, but i know 2 or 3 little dexter's so might not be the only one.
Silas - no, i lied, this is my favourite. like this a lot.
Dominic - don't love it, but don't hate it.

Agatha - i get that old lady chic is a thing now, but this is a step t far for me.
Marilla - Milla ; pretty!
Adelaide - Addie REALLY like this.
Delia - no, delia smith has ruined this for me
Susannah - Sukie - i like Sukie, i don't like susannah, and not seeing how you get one from the other. i'd just use Sukie.
Meredith - where i'm from (wales) this is a man's name pronounced muh-RED-it, rather than the grey's anatomy way. that said i much prefer it as a girls name.
Miriam- I don't mind this.
Orla - I like a lot.
Stella- I'm neutral on this.
Robin- Prefer it as Robyn for a girl, but yes i like it.

mathanxiety · 14/08/2019 00:35

I like all the names except Kenny, Meredith, Zebulon, and Marilla.

Astronica · 14/08/2019 04:22

I really like Patrick, Hector (a bolder choice but rather cool) and Dominic.

Quentin, Dexter and Silas are okay. Zebulon just doesn't appeal to me and I dislike Kenny and Vincent.

I love Susannah/Sukie and Miriam. I love Adelaide but not Addie - would you consider Daisy for Adelaide? Agatha could grow on me. I dislike Marilla, Delia and Stella.

Sparklysunflower · 14/08/2019 05:41

I have a Quentin so am biased Smile. I also like Vincent and Dominic. The meaning of Hector would put me off.

For a girl I like Stella and Orla.

Grufallosfriends · 14/08/2019 06:10

Quentin and Susannah are my favourites.

Flowerspowersy · 14/08/2019 14:54

I like Dexter and Quentin from your boys list and Stella and Agatha for a girl.

whattodowith · 14/08/2019 15:52

Patrick - it is very common but I quite like it
Hector - no way
Quentin - Tarantino or Blake. I do like it though
Kenny - as in Kenneth? I’m not keen
Zebulon - Zeb- no way
Vincent - Vinnie- I like Vincent but not Vinnie
Dexter - no
Silas - no
Dominic - definitely not

I’d use Patrick or Quentin

Agatha - Christie. I think it’s quite a harsh name
Marilla - Milla- never heard of this but not a fan
Adelaide - Addie - no
Delia - Smith. No.
Susannah - Sukie- no
Meredith - ok
Miriam- no
Orla- no
Stella- harsh and makes me think of lager
Robin- prefer it spelt Robyn for girls

I’d use Robyn or Miriam, probably Robyn.

diddlediddle · 14/08/2019 16:20

Is Zebulon the new Balonz? If so, I like it

Vivi890 · 14/08/2019 18:07

Patrick - lovely
Hector - cool
Quentin - wet
Kenny - no horrid
Zebulon - 1000 times no!!!
Vincent - Vinnie - this is getting really popular recently but I hate it - can’t imagine it on anyone other than a bald middle aged builder who calls everyone ‘love’ and watches the football in the pub every Saturday with his mates and a pint and a packet of pork scratching a
Dexter - I think this is cool
Silas - also quite like but it reminds me of the creepy murderer who was a character on hollyoaks when I watched a few years ago!
Dominic - okay

Agatha - no, so harsh
Marilla - no
Adelaide - Like
Delia - prefer Celia or Odell’s
Susannah - LOVE Sukie but not so keen on Susannah
Meredith - no, bit meh
Miriam - cool meaning but also a bit boring
Orla - lovely
Stella - cool!
Robin - love Robyn for a little girl, spelt like this

Vivi890 · 14/08/2019 18:08

Oops - Odell’s was meant to say Odelia
