Hiya,

What's your thoughts on the name Jett for a boy? Would you automatically think Jet Li?

thanks :)

Or Shark. (West Side Story reference)

Honestly OP, it's not what I would choose and reminds me more of an animal name, but if we all liked the same things then life would be boring...

DulciUke · 08/08/2019 03:06

Sorry, I think it's awful.

MrsDrSpencerReid · 08/08/2019 03:48

I know 3 Jett’s!

One teenage girl, absolutely the loveliest girl you will ever meet, good grades, manners, musician etc.

One in my daughters 6th grade class, popular, from a nice family, school prefect, good at sports.

And the other the little boy that lives across from my parents, lovely boy, very clever and popular at school too.

I’m in Aus, it’s actually quite a popular name here.

Go for it OP!

I called my beautiful black dog Jet. I like it.

Spikeyball · 08/08/2019 12:57

Jethro nn Jet or Jett? I think the option of a more formal name is better.

Choccyhobnob · 08/08/2019 13:33

Are you in the UK? Think that will make a difference. Only asking as was surprised you didn't know who Katie Price is!!

sandalsinthebin · 08/08/2019 13:44

Love it. My four have very traditional names and I wish now that I'd been more adventurous. With hindsight I wish I'd gone for Greek god and goddess names Grin

HeyMonkey · 08/08/2019 14:03

It's naff.

HeadintheiClouds · 08/08/2019 14:04

Cartoon character. And crap at that, sorry.

HeadintheiClouds · 08/08/2019 14:09

I love how you always get people going “I know one and he’s tall, gorgeous, clever and kind to his Mum, go for it! ” as if it was a superhero costume you could put on which imbued the wearer with guaranteed qualities / powers, instead of a fecking name.

itsabootyhole · 08/08/2019 14:16

@HeadintheiClouds agree 😂

Love Jett. Reminds me of the name Rhett from Gone with the wind. If you're nerdy, into sci fi, will be taking your child to unorthodox places and sharing interests in comics, sci fi films etc then it suits your family.

zafferana · 08/08/2019 15:33

It's naff - sorry - and any name that Jordan has used would be a 'no' from me.

Pinkout · 08/08/2019 15:59

Another one for Katie Price.

Fuiseog · 08/08/2019 16:17

I didn't make any of the associations - Katie Price, George Lucas, even Gladiators. Still, I'm not wild about the name. It's just not my style. However, I do think @Tifsy87 that you have been quite defensive when it's been criticised. That should maybe tell you how much you like it - and that's what's important. If you don't care that many people dislike it, then maybe it's the right name for you. I do think you could be less insulting of others - you say that you're just dishing it back to those who insulted you personally, but actually they didn't. They gave an opinion on a name you like, not on you personally. And remember, you did ask for those opinions. If you didn't want honest responses, maybe you should have said so. Perhaps sometimes people could be gentler in saying they dislike a name, but after all, if people post on here looking for opinions, they usually want to know what others will/would think of it and prepare for the worst as well as the best. Isn't the whole purpose to see how a name would be received? I would see it as that, and s way of making sure there was no issue with the name I hadn't foreseen.

TL/DR If you love the name despite criticism, use it, but be prepared for these reactions.

Frith2013 · 09/08/2019 02:08

Not Jethro. He’s that bearded idiot who thinks he’s a comedian.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 02/10/2019 09:38

I'm a Veterinary nurse and for me it will always be a name for black labradors and black cats Grin

Bishbosh84 · 02/10/2019 09:39

Not sure if you’ve already decided OP but I love Jett as a nn for Jethro

Joeybee · 02/10/2019 09:46

I don't know who Jet Li is...so no.
I think Jett is a nice nickname, not sure of it as a stand-alone name, but that's just a personal preference.

emilybrontescorsett · 02/10/2019 21:28

Don't like it. Would only suit a child with black hair.

Raphael34 · 02/10/2019 21:34

I know two black labradors and a black poodle called jet. I wouldn’t do it

FartnissEverbeans · 04/10/2019 14:16

I actually love it, and, now that a op has said they know girls with this name, I like it even more for a girl! What an awesome name.

However - although I didn’t know Katie Price’s child was named Jett, that does put me off a bit.

Not that much though. I’m adding it to my girl list

FartnissEverbeans · 04/10/2019 14:17

*pp not op

TatianaLarina · 04/10/2019 15:37

Chavvy. Didn’t know about Katie Price, I lost track after Princess Tiaami.
