Names you just don’t understand the hype for?

(Thread isn’t meant to offend anyone - MN hates my Dd and Ds names anyway!)

For me it would have to be Cordelia and Juniper.

What 'hype' is there for Cordelia? Confused

Grufallosfriends · 07/08/2019 17:01

But if you mean fashionable names then I'd say cutesy names like
Archie
Alfie
Evie
Elsie

CremeEggThief · 07/08/2019 17:07

Anything too old man/ old lady. E.g.
Albie/ Bertie/ Albert
Stanley/Stan
Reggie
Mabel
Ethel
Agnes

I'm also not keen on names that hyphenate with May/Mae e.g. Ellie-May, Mollie-Mae, Lily-May, etc.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 07/08/2019 17:09

Rufus - always a dogs name to me

Lavenderblues · 07/08/2019 17:12

Archie/Alfie/Albie
Willy/Billy
Izzy/Evie/Ellie

Lavenderblues · 07/08/2019 17:13

Cordelia is beautiful.

Never met a Juniper.

I'm always surprised at how popular boys' names-that-sound-like-surnames are, especially with unusual spellings, e.g. Jaxon. In my social circle, the boys' names that seem super popular that I just don't get are Hugo, Oscar and Arlo. Nothing wrong with any of them, all perfectly respectable names, but it puzzles me that they're SO popular.

Teddy

sofato5miles · 07/08/2019 17:15

Kai

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/08/2019 17:15

Vincent/Vinnie - I see sleazy 70's car dealer in a sheepskin coat and with a medallion ring.

PixieLumos · 07/08/2019 17:16

I don’t think it’s as common now but a while ago every other girls name seemed to have a random ‘Mae’ attached to it - Amelia-Mae, Sienna-Mae, Ruby-Mae, ruining a name that would be perfectly nice by itself. Having said that, Mae on its own would be a nice name - no doubt someone would want to turn it into Mae-Mae though.

CocoLoco87 · 07/08/2019 17:17

Willy Grin

PixieLumos · 07/08/2019 17:19

Anything that’s purposeful spelt differently (incorrectly) to make it more special or ‘younique’.The name still sounds the same! Why?

20viona · 07/08/2019 17:20

Evie and Evelyn I just don't like those names.

Fruityb · 07/08/2019 17:20

Aurora. Met a few when my son was born. I bloody hate it.

Youngandfree · 07/08/2019 17:21

Josh
Ryan
Millie
Mia
Tia
Sophia/Sophie
Ella/Ellie
Jack/Harry

MoltoAgitato · 07/08/2019 17:24

Amelia. Completely fail to see how it’s become so popular!

cushioncovers · 07/08/2019 17:27

Alfie
Reggie
Stanly
Frank
Albie

looloo247 · 07/08/2019 17:29

Amelia for definite, and any girls name with a -mae added on. Boys names I don't get that are a few of round me are Ezra and Reggie

bumblebee1987 · 07/08/2019 17:31

The awful obsession with adding 'den' to the end of a name-

Jayden
Kayden
Hayden
Cayden

Hate hate hate them!

laylabella · 07/08/2019 17:33

Agree with Cordelia and Juniper. Genevieve and Juliet I am not keen on and I see them everyday on these threads.
Also agree with Reggie its not my cup of tea

pallisers · 07/08/2019 17:35

It isn't that I think these names are awful but I just don't get why they are so popular

Amelia
Margot (really can't understand this one)
Archie
Alfie

ArtichokeAardvark · 07/08/2019 17:39

Arlo. Three years ago I'd never heard of the name. Now it's everywhere! I don't dislike it, but I have no idea how it's become so popular so suddenly.

heidbuttsupper · 07/08/2019 17:40

Oliver
Olivia

Sleepyquest · 07/08/2019 17:42

Totally agree with the Jayden/kayden!

I can't bear them, along with Kai and then names which are spelt in a dumb way eg Jaxon or Mawgan.
