(Thread isn’t meant to offend anyone - MN hates my Dd and Ds names anyway!)

For me it would have to be Cordelia and Juniper.

Oh now I’m on 2 out of 3.

Weirdly the one I thought might be on here isnt

pollysproggle · 07/08/2019 21:22

My eldest is Caden!

I completely understand the hate around this name and names that sound like it. I too feel the same about the use of this name ☹️

Years ago I went to America and met someone called Caden and really liked the name and the spelling, I'd never heard of it and looked it up. It means spirited and is not a made up name at all.
He is in secondary school now and the only one with his name (same in primary) but I hear it all the time now and always with a different spelling variation like Kaiden or Kayden never ever spelt the original way which makes me feel like it's tacky as they still all sound the same.

I call him Cade mostly, he likes his name which is the important thing but I do sometimes wish I made a different choice!

katy1111 · 07/08/2019 21:23

Haha yes I'm also lurking here to see if mine has made it Grin. I don't mind if it does though. I don't find it a bitchy thread at all, it's just a bit of fun isn't it!

papit · 07/08/2019 21:31

LadyWithLapdog · 07/08/2019 21:43

There’s a considerable overlap between this thread and the recent one about favourite names.

tresbe · 07/08/2019 21:52

@LadyWithLapdog haha I was just reading that thread and thinking I don't like any of these names! If it's the top three girls names one.... but I doubt many people would like my top 3!

GlamGiraffe · 07/08/2019 21:57

Wow, I didn't even realise Arlo was a used name! I've only ever known it to be the name of a security camera system😯 never hear of the book- obviously completely out of touch 😳.
It seem DS very classic name is much more disliked on MN than Dd's names which in real life seems to be much more marmite in real life. I wonder how much regionality plays a role in it? In I'm in London and there are so many names around often made up and sometimes unintelligible I feel it's important to have a good sturdy "proper" name that people can recognise.

missmouse101 · 07/08/2019 22:02

God awful Wren, Margo, Emma, Grace, Alice. Also all the 'mealy' names like Amelia. Sound so ugly!

LadyGAgain · 07/08/2019 22:08

Arlo sounds like someone from Essex/East end saying "Harlow". I don't care either way but if I met someone who was called Arlo I would need to ask whether it was Arlo or Harlow.
Someone I know also just had a baby called Arbella. Home Counties. To be it's Bella from Yorkshire "where's Our Bella?" Grin

ballsdeep · 07/08/2019 22:10

by the way these names are FINE just not my personal choice. I was going to name my child Brent Blush (back in 2008/ I was young). Thank God I had a girl!

TerribleCustomerCervix · 07/08/2019 22:13

I never understand why people come on these threads and declare them bitchy.

My DS is William- loads of people have mentioned they hate it. That’s fine, same as if they didn’t like how I’d decorated my kitchen or the colour of my car.

Big whoop- someone on the the Internet doesn’t like your child’s name. Most of these posts are just lists of names, not long tirades of how terrible their parents’ tastes are. If that upsets someone they really need to become a bit more resilient about other people’s irrevelant opinions.

Crunchymum · 07/08/2019 22:15

My three kids names were mentioned by page 2 Shock

MinnieMouse89 · 07/08/2019 22:15

I love the baby name threads but I never comment if the list is something like:

Dorothy
Margot
Juliet
Margaret
Helena
Elizabeth
Florence
Juniper/Juno
Alice
Sarah

Names like these seem to be recommended on every thread though!

Shmithecat2 · 07/08/2019 22:19

Reuben. Dreadful name.

InsertFunnyUsername · 07/08/2019 22:20

There aren't many names I hate or that I would even judge a person for. But I wouldn't name my child pretty much anything described as "Beautiful, classic, imagine a doctor with it" on MN. They are the ready salted of the name world 😴

emmxO · 07/08/2019 22:27

Rocco - becoming increasingly popular around here I just don't get it as a baby name...

Aalvy - another one becoming pretty popular about me but I just don't get it reminds me of algae...

TerribleCustomerCervix · 07/08/2019 22:28

Mammyloveswine · 07/08/2019 22:42

One of my childrens names has been mentioned the other hasn't... yet Grin

Lucas is the name I'm not a fan of...purely because with a Geordie accent it sounds awful! I've also taught 4! DH loved it though!

My mama suggested Wayne when I was pregnant... no way!

I also cringe when a son is named after their father! Hate it! So unoriginal!

I hate nicknames as "full" names on birth certificates...ie Alfie not Alfred/Bertie not Albert etc...

Girls names I'm not fond of are Ruby, Lilly, Jane, Alice, Florence, Martha, Betty, June, Sunday, Winter, Aria/Arya

Poetryinaction · 07/08/2019 22:51

I don't hate these but don't understand why they are so well liked either
Noah
Theo
Freya
Wren
Amelia

Rosere · 07/08/2019 22:58
