We're on Round 1 of shortening our girl's name list. What do you think of these names ...

Caroline/Callie
Emmeline/Emmy
Juliet
Angela
Saskia
Isobel
Clara

Thanks! Also open to suggestions if you like a name which you think may be similar to what we have.

Juliet!

We had Juliet as a contender for DD - my concern was I couldn't think of a cute nickname (I wasn't too sure about Jules), but maybe that doesn't matter.

Snoopy90 · 02/08/2019 20:58

I love Juliet and Saskia. Clara is nice, sounds classy to me. Not so keen on the others.

Loveislandaddict · 02/08/2019 21:01

Not so keen on Caroline.

Love Emmeline and Saskia.

Others okay.

Alternatives:
Clematine
Georgina

I would shorten it a bit more and cross off Angela.

userabcname · 02/08/2019 21:17

Love Juliet! I like Clara and Caroline too.

DramaAlpaca · 02/08/2019 21:19

I like your list. My favourite is Caroline. Angela is dated, but maybe it's time for a revival.

Bellaposey · 02/08/2019 21:19

I love Juliet, Emmeline and Isobel and like Clara. Really not keen on Caroline, Angela or Saskia.

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/08/2019 21:23

The only one I really don't like is Angela. It's just too 60s/70s to me and everybody seems to have an auntie Angela. I also really dislike Ange

I really like Caroline. It would be lovely to meet a little Caroline, everybody knows the name but it's very underused currently which is perfect. Callie is a cute nn too

Emmeline is gorgeous but I think I'd use as a mn as Emmy's are everywhere with all the Emily's and Emilia's

Not so keen on Juliet but it's nice enough

Saskia is nice but I only imagine it on a dark haired child

Love Isobel it's DD1s middle name. It's middle not first though as it's too popular for my tastes

Clara is nice but seems very in at the moment

I would 100% choose Caroline. Caroline Isobel

gregoire · 02/08/2019 21:25

Caroline/Callie - I think Caroline is a wee bit dull / old fashioned.
Emmeline/Emmy - like this, it's pretty
Juliet - love this name! On my list too.
Angela - bit dull / dated
Saskia - just don't like the sound
Isobel - pretty
Clara - very nice

imtheonlyupsieone · 02/08/2019 21:25

Caroline/Callie - yes love this. Classic pretty name, underused, nice nn
Emmeline/Emmy - bit dull, long name feels about try hard, short name boring and twee
Juliet - nice enough
Angela - want to say it's coming back inbut really it just makes me think of a 50 year old administrator
Saskia - not my taste but ok
Isobel - Jesus no, not another Isobel/Isabelle
Clara - pretty, like it

Tillygetsit · 02/08/2019 23:05

Caroline/Callie Caroline is really ugly to my ears. Callie is nice. Callia?
Emmeline/Emmy Nice
Juliet Nice
Angela I'm surprised I like this so much.
Saskia Nice
Isobel Lovely
Clara Knew a crackpot called Clara so its spoilt the name.
Favourite is Isobel followed by Angela.

OhMyDarling · 02/08/2019 23:06

Clara or Emmeline

Sophronia · 02/08/2019 23:07

Caroline or Angela! Both due a comeback.

monsieurmarius · 02/08/2019 23:13

Love Saskia, Clara and Isobel, they're all lovely and timeless. Caroline, Emmeline for me are a no and Angela is a big no...it's very dated to me and not in a good way

AdaColeman · 02/08/2019 23:14

All lovely names, though Isobel was hugely popular only a couple of years ago.
Caroline is my least favourite, and not at all keen on Callie as a nn, sounds very harsh, though Caro is OK.

My favourites are Juliet and Saskia.

CatteStreet · 02/08/2019 23:18

Caroline/Callie ... not keen. I sort of like Caroline, but not very much.It has quite an 80s feel for me, having known several growing up.
Emmeline/Emmy ... Emmeline yes, Emmy no
Juliet ... no. The associations are too strongly tragic. There are much better Shakespearean names you could go for: Beatrice, Miranda, Paulina, Rosalind, etc.
Angela ... no
Saskia ... like this a lot
Isobel ... like this; slightly prefer the Isabel spelling, but I think Isobel is more unusual
Clara ... love

CitizensNotSubjects · 02/08/2019 23:19

I like your taste a lot but I'll try to err on the side of harsh.

Caroline/Callie - love Caroline. Do it! Really dislike Callie though, feels a lot weaker and actually is a name my mum's family (Ireland) have for mash potato and chives, a bit like champ.

Emmeline/Emmy - nice. Emmeline takes my thoughts directly to Pankhurst though. Emmy to Emmy Lou Harris. Who I love and who is gorgeous.

Juliet - lovely. A mumsnet favourite I've noticed

Angela - a bit like Caroline but even more no-nonsense. I was going to say less glam but Caroline is hardly glam. Except Princess Caroline. Which takes me on to how good Caroline sounds in French.....
Anyway, I know lots of fab Carolines and Angelas

Saskia - feels a bit flash in the pan by comparison. Not my fave.

Isobel - my least fave. Very worthy. A tad....dour?

Clara - a bit worthy, straight-laced, serious. But a nice sound.

HeronLanyon · 02/08/2019 23:27

Like them all. Only real thought is about Caroline - think Catherine is similar and much nicer ? Caroline feels 70s/80s and not quite the classic which can carry off a return just yet ?? Like it nevertheless.

DontCallMeShitley · 02/08/2019 23:47

Caroline is 70's/80's, I know a Caroline of that era, don't like Callie
I loathe Saskia
Not keen on Juliet.
Don't like Angela

How about Julia?
Ellen, Elleanora?

CatteStreet · 03/08/2019 00:21

Ellen is very underused and underrated. Good call!

Evergreeny · 03/08/2019 00:24

Caroline/Callie - lovely (as long as it’s Caroline on the BC)

Emmeline/Emmy - as above

Juliet - lovely

Angela - fine on a 60 year old woman. Terrible on a child born in 2019/20.

Saskia - lovely

Isobel - lovely

Clara - I just don’t like it. I’m not sure why.

RoseMartha · 03/08/2019 00:27

Juliet

SwedishEdith · 03/08/2019 00:38

Caroline/Callie - love. Carrie or Lina though.
Emmeline/Emmy - Why go for Emmeline if use Emmy?
Juliet - Julia is nicer.
Angela - Only Angie Dickinson pulled this off. My school was FULL of Angelas
Saskia - there was a horrible one on Big Brother one year. Said "End of" all the time so has "stupid" associations for me.
Isobel - lots of them.
Clara - ok.

IsobelRae23 · 03/08/2019 02:48

Caroline/Callie- no
Emmeline/Emmy- pretty
Juliet- nice, Juile terrible
Angela- def no
Saskia- pretty
Isobel- pretty
Clara- pretty

Love your selections

Other than Isobel. Way too popular and I hate Izzy as a nickname
