Oscar or Toby

Ds due any day. We cannot agree on a name!

DH really likes Oscar or Toby but I’m just not 100%. I like Ben or Patrick but he’s definitely against both.

Any thoughts (good or bad) on Oscar or Toby? Middle name would be Oscar Patrick and Toby Harris.

Thanks a lot in advance!

I have a Toby 😊

Oscar is quite popular, Toby less popular but not uncommon.

DancerOnIce · 28/07/2019 21:36

I personally much prefer Toby but nothing wrong with Oscar (or Ben or Patrick!)

Atlasta · 28/07/2019 21:36

Oscar Patrick

Argeles · 28/07/2019 21:37

Toby.

whizzpopbangalang · 28/07/2019 21:40

One name from each of you so Oscar Patrick 😊

Thanks all. @Clevs - maybe a silly question but did you get much feedback/compliments/negative comments along the way?

@whizzpopbangalang - true! Maybe il try switching it to Patrick Oscar using the same argument!

See, I don't like Toby because I am old (mid 50s) where Toby's brother was Silas; farm boys.

Their cousin was Barnaby.

Bigpizzalover · 28/07/2019 21:46

I have a Toby. Oscar was also on my list.

Cotswoldmama · 28/07/2019 21:48

Much prefer Oscar

sarararararah · 28/07/2019 21:51

I have a Toby. He’s 8 now. I do like Oscar too. I get lots of nice comments about it and he likes it very much. It suits him! Do you have to decide now? Toby was one of several names we liked but when he was born it just seemed to suit him.

Clevs · 28/07/2019 21:53

@Fivefootoffun

We didn't know what we were having and had two boys names and two girls names shortlisted. We have had nothing but positive reactions, but I'm not sure anyone would tell us to our face if they didn't like the name we'd chosen anyway? Several people have asked why we chose Toby and it was just a name that we both really liked. There are no family connections etc. that influenced our decision.

Fivefootoffun · 28/07/2019 21:53

@sarararararah - thanks for that - it’s good to hear you’ve got lots of nice comments. Your right, we don’t neee to decide now at all - it’s just stressing me out! With our DD - DH was much more easily talked round 😂 he’s not budging this time!

Thanks a lot for feedback, much appreciated.

@Clevs - thanks for that. I think I’m paranoid because when I mentioned it in work I got the usual ‘dogs name’ response but to be honest I get that with most boys names we like. Our neighbours dog is called Oscar as is my cousins! Can’t win!

Thanks again - much appreciated.

My nephew is a Toby. I know SIL got the ‘that’s a dog’s name’ comment but I really like the name and it suits him (he’s 8 now). I love Oscar but it’s quite popular where we live whereas I’ve not come across another Toby.

Clevs · 28/07/2019 22:10

@Fivefootoffun

I've never thought if it as a dogs name to be honest. I don't think I've ever met a dog called Toby😕 I have come across some dogs called Oscar though 😆

I don't dislike Oscar, in fact I quite like it but it never made our shortlist as we have a neighbour called Oscar. Plus I think it's become too popular over recent years.

tashakg89 · 28/07/2019 22:29

I love the name toby! Wanted Toby twice but ended up with an archie and an Oscar ( I absolutely love there names too) everyone kept trying to put me off Toby I dont know why? if I have another they will be called Toby.

sheshootssheimplores · 28/07/2019 22:33

I have a Toby but be warned it is POPULAR. I know lots of Mumsnet want a younique name so just to let you know my son will be going into Reception with at least two other Toby’s that I know of.

fedup21 · 28/07/2019 22:36

I love all of your names!

Prob wouldn’t go for Ben as there are a few of them around in our friendship groups, but all the others are great.

blahblahblabblahblah100 · 28/07/2019 22:43

My BIL is called Tobias, and NN Toby....to me he doesn't suit Toby (prob because everyone I hear it I think of the old lady neighbor shouting her dog 😂)
My boys middle name is Oscar as husband really wanted it, but I felt it was far too popular!
We didn't name our boy until he was five days old as couldn't agree!

Fivefootoffun · 28/07/2019 22:48

Thanks all - lots of useful feedback!

I cannot give an opinion on this as I have two shitzus, Oscar and Toby Blush

Fivefootoffun · 28/07/2019 23:27

@broken1982 - that might help in my argument!

I like Toby slightly better, but I like both.

If only people wouldn't give their dogs human names, no one would say something as stupid as that. Dogs can be called Spotty or Rover or Bouncer or whatever. They don't need to be called Oscar or Toby.
