What do people think of this as a name in itself... partner doesn’t like Josiah and I don’t like Jocelyn but I do like joss.

What do you think ?

I love Joss as a boys name.

Knew the gentlest, kindest man I have ever met and he was called Joss.

Lovely😚

Divgirl2 · 15/07/2019 15:20

I know a Joss who is just Joss. We call him Joss the Toss (because he is) but as a name I think it's fine. It's quite a feminine name in my opinion, but that wouldn't necessarily bother me too much.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 15/07/2019 15:21

It's too similar to Josh imo.

drquin · 15/07/2019 15:25

Dare I say it .... many names are only "male" or "female, or masculine / feminine to us because of who we know already of that name.
The Joss I know is an 80-odd year old man. Short for Joseph.

Right now I wouldn't pick Joss as a name for my child, but only because the one I know has a negative connotation at present. But you don't know him 😂 so that's ok!

Iamblossom · 15/07/2019 15:28

I absolutely love it.

Nquartz · 15/07/2019 15:31

There's Joss Wheedon I think, he's a man. I like it

Rachelover40 · 15/07/2019 15:31

Joshua with Josh for short is far better, in my opinion.

SinglePringle · 15/07/2019 15:33

I love it. I know it’s different but it makes me think of Jed Bartlett (#forpresident) & that can only be a good thing.

FriarTuck · 15/07/2019 15:37

Joss is a girl's name & it will always get misheard as Josh on a boy. Joshua is miles better.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 15/07/2019 15:43

Joss ISN'T a girls nme only.
I have known 2 male Joss's and no females.
One Joss was nice and the other was bloody wonderful.

I think Joss is much nicer than Josh. Maybe because of my accent it comes more naturally,, but even so, Joss is brilliant😁

Saharasunset · 15/07/2019 15:52

Is this after hearing the name Jos Butler in the cricket World Cup yesterday?

His full name is Joseph and shortened to Jos?

I love Jos for a boy and is my front runner currently

EdtheBear · 15/07/2019 15:59

Not convinced by it.
Sounds to much like Jess or Josh.

I think I'd go for Joseph or Joshua.

joystir59 · 15/07/2019 16:00

Much prefer Joshua nn Josh

Frith2013 · 15/07/2019 16:50

As long as your surname isn’t Stick.

Auey · 15/07/2019 16:56

Thanks everyone... I was expecting everyone to hate it so I’m pleased it seems to be more positive than negative... I like it a lot!

I have also facebooked the name to see other people with the name and it is mostly men so I think it’s just joss stone that made me think it was more of a female name.

@frith2013 no not our surname... although that hadn’t even crossed my mind 😂

It's defiantly a male name for me. Reminds me of Joss Ackland who was very charismatic.

Cbeebiesrehab · 15/07/2019 17:06

I like it. Considered it for my son but was put off by the S ending due to all the misuses of apostrophes🤦🏻‍♀️ But I appreciate that’s not an issue for most people!

AnonymousP · 15/07/2019 17:25

Gorgeous name, I absolutely love it!

Sophronia · 15/07/2019 21:16

Love it. It can be short for Joseph as well.

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/07/2019 21:23

I went to school with a Joss that was short for Johnathan. I used to sit next to the printer in computing class and I stole the copy of code he'd written once!

JustTheCrowsAndTheBeef · 15/07/2019 21:25

Joss Whedon is a Joseph.

Tillygetsit · 15/07/2019 22:53

Love it.

Astronica · 16/07/2019 04:40

Yes, it works.

Antonin · 16/07/2019 17:07

Joss Ackland was a well known actor

MikeUniformMike · 16/07/2019 17:08

It could be short for Joseph
