If we like Seth...

DH and I have had a girl's name picked out for months, but if this one turns out to be a boy, we're a bit stumped.
We both tend to like strong, simple, timeless (possibly biblical) names like Seth, Jude, Finn, Sam(uel), but can't seem to agree on just one.
Can you suggest any other boy's names that we might like along those lines?
Family middle name has already been chosen and surname is a very common one-syllable British name.

I’m thinking surname like lee?

Usually a shorter surname goes better with a longer surname.

All your names sound great! I love Samuel.

Thanks all, some lovely suggestions.
Our surname seems to work with both long and short names so don't think that needs to be too much of a consideration.
Other possible contenders include Dylan, Sol, Elis, Gabe but not one is really standing out.
Keep firing ideas at me. The perfect name is out there somewhere!

Strong simple classic possibly biblical but not commonly used these days:
Mark
James
Simon
Peter
...easy to spell and instantly recognizable and yet none are in top 100 for 2017.

notatwork · 09/07/2019 16:15

Gah!
I meant John, not James (too many!)

Seth is a great name, it’s a shame whichever one of you doesn’t like it!

gerbo · 09/07/2019 16:47

Tom (not Thomas)

parsnipsbuttered · 09/07/2019 16:55

Thomas would most likely be the middle name

Thanks for all these ideas. Our long list is getting longer!
Names that we like but already used by close friends and family include Alfie, Noah, Barney, Ethan, Jacob, Ezra.
Looks like we're leaning towards classic names but with a bit of a contemporary feel.
I like Jed, and also Seb or Jem but think they work better as nicknames, and I'm not keen on the longer full names for them.
Keep these great suggestions coming!

I like simple, strong, timeless names too and think all of the ones you've mentioned are great.

Our son is 2 now. Our shortlist (not in any particular order) was:
Elan
Jake
Laurie
Saul
Seth
Evan
Moss
Jory
Casey
Dylan
Jody

It took us forever to choose and we didn't settle on a name til he was about 3 weeks old (some family members found the wait intolerable!!)

We ended up using one of the list above and we have absolutely no regrets. Good luck!
