Hello! I'm looking for a name for a daughter, but it's a bit of a dilemma situation right now.

I really like alliteration names, and since the last name is going to be Kim, I kind of wish her first name also started with a K too. I just think it's really cute, and haven't really found a reason to not think about it. The problem is, when I was asking for cute K names to my friends, one of them said "oh like the Kardashians?" And I honestly have nothing against the tv show or family whatsoever, but I just don't want the baby's full name to have an immediate reference once you hear it. Would you immediately get reminded of the Kardashian clan when you hear an alliteration name that starts with K?

And also, are there any cute, short K names that you'd recommend? ;) I know a lot of people would say I should go with a long name since the surname is already pretty short, but I've always been a fan of short names. Thank you!

I wouldn't necessarily associate with the Kardashians unless you choose a name that is normally spelt with a C and spell it with a K instead, e.g. Karoline, Klaire, Kristine

Aquamarine1029 · 05/07/2019 21:32

Karah Kim.

As long as you also don’t give them a K middle name!

MamaFlintstone · 05/07/2019 21:33

Yes I would think Kardashians. But I don’t really like alliteration for names anyway so I’m probably not the best to respond!

Botanica · 05/07/2019 21:34

As long as it's not one of the Kardashian names then I don't think I'd make a connection at all.

My personal preference is not to mispell names so if it was a true K name with your surname I think that would be lovely.

Have you got a shortlist in mind yet?

DickieDonkey · 05/07/2019 21:34

Not a problem as long as you don’t use one of their kids names (which I doubt anyone would anyway - North or Saint anyone??).

Are you planning on a couple of children? Because a whole lot of Ks is absolutely reminiscent of the Kardashians.

Alliterative names are cute for little girls but sound really awkward on teenagers and embarrassing on adults.

There are plenty of names. Even if you have drop the traditional C spelling of some names. Most of them are perfectly acceptable, even if not the norm.
Kassie Kim.

Kendra is pretty ☺️

Tillygetsit · 06/07/2019 00:14

Keziah Kim is lovely.
If it's a name that's meant to start with a K I don't think it's too Kardashian.

Kit is really cute and can be a nn for Christine or Catherine— both can be spelled with a K as well but if you are worried about the Kardashian connection choosing a c-full name with a k-nickname could help!

I would definitely think Kardashian, especially if you use a non-standard K spelling like Khloe.

I prefer non-alliterative names.

Very Kardashian-esque. Especially if you use a K for a name that many people would presume starts with a C e.g. Cara, Carly, Carina, Cassie, Casey, Christie, Cassidy, Callie, Cody (which I think is for boys) etc. Kerry and Keziah go fine with Kim. Personally I much prefer Keziah to Kerry.

whatausername · 06/07/2019 15:25

It's worth noting that what is relevant in popular culture today will not always be so. And if you love a name then use it. If a few people make the Kardashian link it's nbd and they will probably soon forget it as they get to know your child. Just don't send her to school with 4ft hair extensions and 4in acrylic nails Grin

Fatkins · 06/07/2019 16:00

I love alliteration. I wouldn't think Kardashians unless you picked one of their first names maybe.

Kate Kim
Keira Kim
Karla Kim (I'm sure I used to know. Karla spelt with a K... Is it normally a C?)

whatausername · 06/07/2019 16:15

Any Carla I've ever known (maybe four or five at most) has been with a C. But that's not to say some people don't use a K and I'm sure in some country or other K is more common than C.

SnowdropFox · 06/07/2019 16:48

The Kardashian thing would pass me by completely!

SweetJasmine17 · 06/07/2019 16:51
