Hello! I'm looking for a name for a daughter, but it's a bit of a dilemma situation right now.

I really like alliteration names, and since the last name is going to be Kim, I kind of wish her first name also started with a K too. I just think it's really cute, and haven't really found a reason to not think about it. The problem is, when I was asking for cute K names to my friends, one of them said "oh like the Kardashians?" And I honestly have nothing against the tv show or family whatsoever, but I just don't want the baby's full name to have an immediate reference once you hear it. Would you immediately get reminded of the Kardashian clan when you hear an alliteration name that starts with K?

And also, are there any cute, short K names that you'd recommend? ;) I know a lot of people would say I should go with a long name since the surname is already pretty short, but I've always been a fan of short names. Thank you!

As long as you avoid all the Kardashian names (Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall, Kylie and Caitlyn / Cait - I know it's a C but still...!) then I think it's ok.
Keziah is nice. Or Katya, Katrina (is that usually a C though?), Keira, Kirsten, Kathleen.

Kathleen Kim
Katharine Kim
(Both could also be shortened to Katie)
Kirsten Kim

Not keen on Kitty Kim because its sounds like a cat product of some sort.

Fatkins · 06/07/2019 17:16

I like Keziah and Kirsten, as suggested by a pp. Agree that Kitty Kim sounds a little bit like a cat food brand.

MrsGrindah · 06/07/2019 17:17

I would also think of Wayne Rooneys kids ..all boys with names beginning with K

Whoops75 · 06/07/2019 17:29

MrsDimmond, really like Kirsten Kim

Carla with a K is awful

To avoid it being a celeb name it needs to be a strong name.

Kathryn Kim
Kirsten Kim

You have way more options if you go for a C name, which will sound similar but not have the KK initials.

Carla Kim
Coco Kim
Caia Kim

I’m a KK (through marriage) and the only comments ever made about my initials are ‘Kevin Keegan’ and ‘is your middle name a K too? Like the KKK’ 😂

Ellmau · 06/07/2019 21:55

You’ll still get the alliterative sound if you spell it with a hard C and I think it would look classier/less Kardashian’s, which is a special concern with the name Kim,

Leslie1990 · 06/07/2019 23:01

That is really quite comforting, thank you! Yes, the middle name also starting with a K would be a bit extreme, so I'm just keeping the alphabet to the first and last name Grin

Wow guys thank you all so much! For those who asked and commented, no I am not planning on taking an original-C-name and just changing the alphabet. And no, I am not planning on having more than one kid to have an alliterative K name! The surname Kim is extremely dominant in our culture, so I don’t know if people will focus more on the KK part or the Kim part.
So far I love Keira/Kiera, Kendra, Kyra and Keziah Grin

I love Kiki and Kitty.

Awrite · 06/07/2019 23:10

I know a Kari, so although normally spelt Carrie, I think it's a fairly established spelling.

Kari Kim is lovely.

EllenEyewater · 07/07/2019 19:19

I really like the name Kerensa

badg3r · 08/07/2019 16:13

Yes I love Keira! Or Kira spelling.

Leslie1990 · 08/07/2019 17:35

Oh wow you guys have amazing K name recommendations, my list is getting so long. I've just added Kari, Kerensa and Kira on the listGrin Kiki sounds really cute, but I love it more as a nickname!

I would think Kardashian I’m afraid, purely due to it being a K, rather than having an Amy Adams, or Sarah Smith for example.
However, I think some of the names are quite nice- more so if you go with traditional, longer ones and maybe one that begins with C?
Kirsten or Christine Kim sounds lovely and are classic names, I’d avoid using a K for names that are usually spelt with a C.

diddlediddle · 10/07/2019 11:21

You could use a name beginning with C instead and still get an alliterative sound without it looking obviously Kardashian-like.

Eg. Clara Kim etc

FindaPenny · 10/07/2019 11:34

I would also think Kardashians, especially as your last name being Kim is a subconscious reminder of Kim Kardashian.... At the same time its not a big deal. I would be reminded of the Kardashians but not assume you had done it in connection to them.

As your last name is short I do think longer first names sound nicer... As a pp mentioned Cristina or maybe Cassandra, but they might not be suitable as you said you didn't want to change a c name to a k name x

Derbee · 11/07/2019 02:53

Keo

Kiki as a nickname

Mummaofmytribe · 11/07/2019 03:03

I have a dd Kezia with a K surname. I always think it sounds lovely (middle name starts with F). Mind you, none of my other kids have a K first name and my dd' 's birth predates the Kardashians!
