Down to final three - Russian boys names

Thanks to everyone for their help on my other thread, still mulling over options!

I'm down to:
Mikhail (Misha)
Constantin
Anton

And just missing out from the shortlist are: Stefan, Artyom and Fyodor (Freddie). We live in the UK so name needs to be pronounceable, spell-able, etc!

What do you think?

Ooh, if we're doing girls' names too, can I put forward Valeriya?

pontiouspilates · 01/07/2019 15:10

I love Constantin. Gorgeous name x

Caspianberg · 01/07/2019 15:24

Constantin is the easiest for English to pronounce and spell i think.

Nicknames: Conny, Constin, Stanley, Costi,

or Conrad as name?

Goostacean · 01/07/2019 15:40

This was my girls' names thread... I think the list is still the same!

I really like Magdalena and Dasha from your girls list x

Goostacean · 01/07/2019 17:40

I need to go through that list again, and get it down to 3! You were all very helpful for boys, and DH was impressed that my final suggestions were sensible Grin

Conn is a good nn.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 02/07/2019 10:01

Excellent, so my girls names thoughts.

Alisa - pretty, but I know one and she is a bit drippy
Anna - LOVE, see previous obsession with Anna Karenina and Russian literature generally
Daria/Darya/Dariya - not sure
Dessa - not for me
Inessa - this is a grower I think
Irina - I do like this, weirdly I don't want too but I do
Ivana - Trump
Klara - love this! Especially with the K.
Larisa/Larissa/Lara - see previous literature obsession. Love it.
Magdalina - very nice
Marianna - pretty
Marta - our cleaner at work is called Marta and she drives me around the bend
Natalya - like this -
Nina - again someone i know

Anna, Klara and Larissa (Lara) are my favourites.

This has been my favourite name thread ever.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 02/07/2019 11:16

Irina and Larissa are my choices from that list. I don't know how either of them would be viewed in Russia - although I get the feeling Irina is a bit old-fashioned - but as you're in the UK, they're pretty, and easy to spell and pronounce, plus I like Lara as a nn.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 02/07/2019 11:20

Misha

Constantin is the evil frog that looks like Kermit
Anton is Anton Du Beke on Strictly Glitterball

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 02/07/2019 11:21

Alisa Lara or Nina but Lara is gorgeous

Goostacean · 02/07/2019 12:31

I'm down to:

  1. Anna (boring?)
  2. Clara
  3. Inessa (Love! Not sure DH will agree)
  4. Irina (maybe too Russian, as per DH's view on Mikhail?)
  5. Larissa/Lara (Larissa- same concern as Irina)
  6. Lydia
  7. Magdalina (love, but DH wants it with an E, Magdalena, which I don't like)
  8. Natalya/Natalia
  9. Nina (love)
10. Tamara (like Mara but not Tammy, so probably not?)

BeTheHokeyMan · 02/07/2019 12:33

I love constantin!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 02/07/2019 13:39

From your narrowed down list, I like Clara, Anna and Lara still. FWIW I have known one or two Lara's over time and none were Russian so I don't know if it is too Russian really.

Fatkins · 02/07/2019 13:46

I love Anna, Clara and Inessa op. The top three on your girl list.

I think Clara is possibly more trendy at the moment, so it may date.

So, I'd go with Anna or Inessa. Love Inessa! I'd never heard of it before this thread.

Anna is possibly a bit 'safe' but it's so beautiful and classy.

Anna and Inessa aren't too similar as well, so if you end up having two DDs eventually, you could use both one day.

Goostacean · 02/07/2019 17:20

I can't decide how I feel about Clara vs Lara. Which suggests I don't love either, really. They conjure very different mental images somehow...

My mum loves Anna, but it does feel a bit too classic almost?! A bit unimaginative...

I love Inessa too, but need to persuade DH!

TatianaLarina · 02/07/2019 17:37

I like -
Larissa nn Lara
Inessa
I agree with your DH that Magdalena is nicer than Magdalina

autumnkate · 02/07/2019 17:43

Yes I prefer Magdalena.

I’m sure it isn’t, but Inessa sounds a bit made-up to me.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 02/07/2019 17:46

I guess you could go Anastasia with nn Anna.

Constatin, definitely.

Goostacean · 05/07/2019 21:24

Well, it's a boy! So we're settled, for the time being and unless DH suggests something amazing, on Constantin 😍

DickieDonkey · 05/07/2019 21:36

Constantin is beautiful. Strong and dignified. Love it!

autumnkate · 05/07/2019 22:07

I think that’s a great choice!
