Original name given to Merlin. Myrddin Emrys

Thoughts?

My favourite so far. Being Welsh myself wanting a Welsh first name that's easy for English to pronounce as now live in England

I love it. Also Emlyn.

lovesawindyday · 24/06/2019 22:30

Would be hard for the kid in England!

Finfintytint · 24/06/2019 22:30

Love it.
Know a few but are older gentleman. A good classic name. Also like Emyr but could be corrupted to sound like Emma in England.

Lovely name and works well in England because so many anglophone people are familiar with Rhys either as a first name or a surname that it gives them something to cling onto.

DramaAlpaca · 24/06/2019 22:45

I like it a lot.

CatalogueUniverse · 24/06/2019 22:49

I had a friend called emrys in school and he was so nice. Lovely name.

Tillygetsit · 24/06/2019 23:06

Gorgeous name and easy to pronounce I think. My favourite Welsh boys name.

FamilyOfAliens · 24/06/2019 23:07

I knew a wonderful head teacher called Emrys. It’s a lovely name and not at all difficult for English people to pronounce as it’s exactly as it’s spelled.

notacooldad · 24/06/2019 23:07

I think it's a good name.

MrsDimmond · 24/06/2019 23:10

MikeUniformMike · 25/06/2019 08:38

It's fine. OP is Welsh and it won't cause any pronunciation issues.
He will get called Em.

Sophronia · 25/06/2019 14:49

How is it pronounced?

FunnyTinge · 25/06/2019 14:57

So nothing to do with the character Emhyr var Emreis (translated apparently as 'The White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies') from the Witcher books then.

is disappointed Sad

MikeUniformMike · 25/06/2019 14:58

EM-riss.
It's the welsh form of Ambrose.

3luckystars · 25/06/2019 15:02

Well I love Merlin, we even went to visit the castle in Pierrefonds France
where it was filmed and it was one of the highlights of my life Smile

So I love it (but was not allowed use it) it's a good name, best of luck x
