Number 1 baby name or something family and friends all hate 😣

We found naming our son so easy and he was Imran ( well .... Immy) from me being 3 months pregnant!!!

Having a 'mare finding a name for our little girl we're expecting though!!!

We really like Sophia but hate that it's number 1 in the UK. Just can't get past it and don't want her to be 1 of 3 Sophia's in her class...

We also like

Yara
Nura
Farida
Zia

But all our family and friends obviously hate them. I wouldn't care if they were just indifferent but I'm starting to question if we just have bad taste in names lol. Don't want to saddle our little one with a bad name!

Any thoughts v welcome 😊

Name her what you like. Yara and zia are really nice but still a bit different. Considering their are kids named Apple and summer and diamond I don't think anything, unless very easy to fit into a cruel rhyme would be looked as out of place anymore. Just my opinion obvs Smile

Jauralane · 22/06/2019 07:13

I think Zia sounds lovely

LadyGAgain · 22/06/2019 07:26

Zia is beautiful. So is Sophia/Sofia. It's classic and timeless. DD1 is in reception. Not one Sophia in the school of 300.

AverageMummy · 22/06/2019 09:01

What about Amara?
Zia is really cool though

Ohyesiam · 22/06/2019 09:04

Choose a name and keep it to yourselves.
Once your friends and family associate the name with a baby they love, they’ll feel different about it.
No point giving anyone else a hand in choosing the name.

golddustwomen · 22/06/2019 09:06

Really like Zia. And it goes nice with your sons name! Which I love too!

KarineAimee · 22/06/2019 10:11

Farida and Zia are both lovely. How about Shayla?

SuzieQ10 · 22/06/2019 10:13

Don't tell family / friends the the name till baby is born.

brainfrying · 22/06/2019 10:13

Saffiah? very close to Sophia.
Zara? Similar to Zia

DrDentyst · 22/06/2019 10:22

Sophia isn't number 1 in England & Wales. It was number 11 in 2017 (the most recent statistics)

IVEgottheDECAF · 22/06/2019 10:27

I wont even use a top 20 name Blush

Love the suggestion of Saffiah, also once met a little Safa

Malaiese · 22/06/2019 10:29

Zia and Farida sound dated.

I really like Yara.

Sandybval · 22/06/2019 10:31

If you really like Sophia then call her Sophia. We had loads of Emma's and Sarah' s when I was at school, and none of them really cared.

InsertFunnyUsername · 22/06/2019 10:36

I like zia Smile

ChocolateChop · 22/06/2019 10:36

Zia is definitely my favourite out of those, beautiful name!

sweetkitty · 22/06/2019 10:38

See this is why you never tell your friends and family your baby names before the baby is born! Someone will always try and put you off.

Sophia is lovely I’m a teacher and don’t know any Sophias.

ThanksItHasPockets · 22/06/2019 11:40

Sophia isn’t number 1. It’s number 11 and has started to fall. I think it has peaked:

Whatever you choose, don’t tell anyone the name from now on until baby is born and you announce your choice.

SoyDora · 22/06/2019 11:42

Sophia isn’t number 1, I think Olivia is.
I have three children and know many, many school and pre school aged children. I know one Sophia.
Farrah? Zara?

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 22/06/2019 11:44

Amara goes lovely with your ds's name!

Krisskrosskiss · 22/06/2019 11:46

I love Zia!

Littlepond · 22/06/2019 11:49

I love the name Yara. Sophia is lovely but I do know a lot of girls under 10 called this so if you are bothered by popular names it might be one to avoid. (Personally i don’t see the issue with popular names my kids all have top ten names!)

BertieBotts · 22/06/2019 11:49

There is such a variety in names now that even a number one name doesn't mean loads of kids will have it. It does mean it's more likely you'll meet other little Sophias but I wouldn't be put off by it. DS2 has a name in the top ten and so far (he's 10 months) I've only met one other little boy with his name, who is 3, and I know of one more, who is about 6.

DS1's name was rank 21 the year he was born and he's only ever met a couple of children with his name.

By the same token I wouldn't worry about family and friends' opinions on a name. The name will become the child and they will grow to love it. I wasn't sure about one of my friends' unusual DC names, but now the little girl is older it just suits her.

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 22/06/2019 11:50

Just to remind you Yara was in GOT. Nice name - just incase anyone mentions it!

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 22/06/2019 11:54

I like Zia

How about
Jaillan
Zillah
Amara

OhhMyLittleGirls · 22/06/2019 11:59

I think 'popular' names are not really that popular in real life, from my experience! In my daughter's year, there are 3 Emily's, 3 Hannah's, 3 Amy's, and 3 Isabel's, and so many Georgia's and Charlotte's in the school, yet NO Isabellas, Avas or Sophias! sorry i've gone a bit off track but the main idea was that I think you should go with Sophia - its a lovely name!!
i like all the names on your list, how about: Sia, Sophie, Zara, Amaia, Alena?
