Any thoughts on Bede. As in, the Venerable Bede, early medieval saint, monk and historian from the NE

Does it sound too, like, Beady?

I absolutely love it!

KarineAimee · 16/06/2019 12:11

Great name 👍🏻

AverageMummy · 16/06/2019 12:12

It doesn’t sound like a name to me - just makes me think of the school

Pinkmouse6 · 16/06/2019 12:12

Nah, not cool.

EssentialHummus · 16/06/2019 12:13

I’d think it was a surname.

UpTheDuffWithOnlyASatnav · 16/06/2019 12:16

@AverageMummy hahahaha Out of catchment, thankfully!

I don't know how it is pronounced but written done the first thing that springs to mind is those things by the toilet that washes your bum!

Lavenderblues · 16/06/2019 12:20

Bede is lovely! Strong and interesting.

Has no similaritiy to bidet btw

HappyDinosaur · 16/06/2019 12:22

Agree it makes me think of a Bidet even if the pronunciation is different.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/06/2019 12:28

We used to have a shopping centre nearby called the Bede Arcade. It reminds me of that. However, it's not bad as a name per se. Without that connection it wouldn't make me think anything in particular.

avalanching · 16/06/2019 12:29

Made me think of bidet as I don't know how to pronounce it.

Birdie6 · 16/06/2019 12:31

avalanching bidet is pronounced bee-day. Nothing like Bede which is Beed.

My new nephew is Bede - I thought it a bit odd at first but it has grown on me. I like it now.

DramaAlpaca · 16/06/2019 12:35

No, I don't like it at all. It's too 'beady' for me.

avalanching · 16/06/2019 12:36

@Birdie6 as I said, I don't know how it's pronounced, well I didn't before this thread, it's not a name I am familiar with so when I read it in my head first time it sounded like bidet. I won't be the only one to make the mistake so worth mentioning when someone is considering a name.

DontCallMeShitley · 16/06/2019 12:41

Little plastic thing with a hole in the centre. Bead.
It's a no from me.

EdtheBear · 16/06/2019 12:43

Makes me think of bidet or given the explanation of Beed pronunciation that's a plastic bit of jewellery.

So sorry its a no from me.

Wandastartup · 16/06/2019 12:46

I love it!

AloneLonelyLoner · 16/06/2019 13:34

This name is
Just fantastic !!!! I'm so jealous. I want a Bede.

bridgetreilly · 16/06/2019 13:53

Great name!

Teddybear45 · 16/06/2019 13:55

People will just pronounce it as Bed. Or Bedder. It’s one of those names that the child will change as soon as they’re old enough. Suggest you keep looking.

PenelopeFlintstone · 16/06/2019 13:56

I knew an old man with this name. He's recently died. It's definitely a real name.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/06/2019 13:59

It's a lovely name but way too out there for a real human

mum2jakie · 16/06/2019 14:06

The only person I've only known to use this name was a Catholic priest who was convicted of child abuse. Obviously a negative association for me!

BlueMerchant · 16/06/2019 14:10

Really don't like it. Too beady.

PineappleSeahorse · 16/06/2019 16:29

It's awful.
