So we have settled on Lana for our little girl due next month. It's the middle name that's now the issue!
Lana Ivy
Lana Violet
Lana Rose
Lana Mae
Lana Sophia

I personally feel like Mae and Rose are really common middle names (nothing wrong with them though) but we have a one syllable surname so it needs to sound right too 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Does anyone have any alternatives or faves out of these?

Lana Elizabeth?

Lana Mae is my favourite of your options.

BlueMerchant · 15/06/2019 09:37

I think Rose and Mae actually sound the nicest out of the list. I was also going to suggest another 'common' one- GraceGrin.
Lana is beautiful.

carmenbea · 15/06/2019 09:44

Lana Mae or Lana Rose x

AverageMummy · 15/06/2019 10:22

From your list Lana Rose & Lana Violet sound beautiful but I like long middle names
Lana Elizabeth
Lana Penelope
Lana Beatrix
Lana Verity

A friend of mine was going to use the name Lana until her older son came home talking all about how his class had been enjoying spelling their names backwards....

It wouldn’t stop me using the name just making sure you know that might come up at some point

pinkyredrose · 15/06/2019 10:25

It spells anal backwards!

CherryValance · 15/06/2019 10:27

Lana Rose is pretty but does have an unfortunate anagram to be aware of as well

Refilona · 15/06/2019 10:27

I teach a wonderful Lana, but yes, I’ve heard kids joke about her name spelling “anal” backwards a few times. She doesn’t seem to care though!

CherryValance · 15/06/2019 10:30

I really like Lana Elizabeth as suggested above. Or Lana Louise?

NapsAndTea · 15/06/2019 10:31

@AverageMummy we had this at school with one of our children (I'm a teacher!) - the children had been doing it at lunch time and it was only when Lana told me that I twigged! Love the name other than that though!

AverageMummy · 15/06/2019 10:34

@NapsAndTea I’m sure all names have some sort of disadvantage but my friend went with Lara instead in the end

AverageMummy · 15/06/2019 10:36

Op if it does bother you at all - I love the name Alannah

qj17 · 15/06/2019 10:46

Yeah the backwards spelling doesn't bother us at all. There's far worse things kids can say!
Iv seen people use larna instead but it just doesn't look as pretty to me.

qj17 · 15/06/2019 10:47

@NapsAndTea my husband loves Lara but Iv got a colleague who's got a daughter with that name so don't really want to use that.

I know of a Lannah, presumably done to avoid the anal thing. I think it looks ridiculous and Lana is just fine.

lucymegan · 15/06/2019 11:04

I've got an Alana but she's always called Lana. It wouldn't bother be about backward spelling but then I'm not not picky.

What about..
Lana Louise
Lana Scarlett
Lana Olivia
Lana Estella

Love Lana violet 💜

lucymegan · 15/06/2019 11:06

Not picky

AverageMummy · 15/06/2019 11:06

Lana is much prettier than Larna !

lucymegan · 15/06/2019 11:06

Nit bloody phone!

MsMustDoBetter · 15/06/2019 11:07

I would use Alana officially - always spell it Alana, but use "Lana" verbally as a shortening, but would never ever write it down.

Whoops75 · 15/06/2019 11:08

Well as long as you don’t mind that’s all that matters Confused What about your daughter?

justbeniceplease · 15/06/2019 11:08

To cause confusion? Because I can't see any other reason for naming your child something and calling them something else.

qj17 · 15/06/2019 11:15

@Whoops75 ok I won't name her something we love because of how it can be spelt BACKWARDS regardless of whether it may bother her or not 🤦🏼‍♀️
I haven't got a crystal ball!

The middle names with three syllables sound nicest to me.

Lana Violet is my favourite from your list - Lana Mae seems very popular/overused.

TigerQuoll · 15/06/2019 11:45

You should use a three syllable middle name if your last name is one syllable.

Eg Lana Elizabeth Smith sounds nice. Lana Rose Smith doesn't roll off the tongue so well.
