Ansel or Adler?

My baby boy is actually already here and three days old and I still haven't decided on which to go with as I simply love them both. 😭

I can't even say I have a tiny preference towards one of them over the other. Help me out, please?

Are you German?

Miljah · 12/06/2019 21:57

They are both very Teutonic names.

MamaOfBothTeams · 12/06/2019 22:00

I prefer Ansel

Congratulations on your baby Thanks

WittyFool · 12/06/2019 22:03

Ansel

AuntieStella · 12/06/2019 22:05

Of the two, I prefer Ansel

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 12/06/2019 22:09

Ansel

newtothenet · 12/06/2019 22:09

I live Ansel! After Ansel Adams.

FamilyOfAliens · 12/06/2019 22:10

They’re surnames, aren’t they?

Reallybadidea · 12/06/2019 22:11

What about Anselm?

TheVanguardSix · 12/06/2019 22:14

Ansel is a brilliant name!
Ansel Adams! Greatest photographer ever.

Adler means eagle in German and is very much a surname. It’s way too strong and a bit 1933. Ya get me tho. Wink

Ansel is gorgeous and I’d have named another son Ansel. But that won’t be happening. We’re not having any more kids.

Deafdonkey · 12/06/2019 22:14

Anselm is better Ansel bit too close to Anusel. Adler is The Woman

lemurllama · 12/06/2019 22:20

Ansel looks like Hansel (from the story Hansel and Gretel) but with a missing 'H' to me! I prefer Anselm.

DasMumBoot · 12/06/2019 23:53

Congratulations. Ansel is my favourite.

FartnissEverbeans · 13/06/2019 03:47

@FamilyOfAliens No, they’re not.

tomatosalt · 13/06/2019 04:23

Ansel reminds me of the Ansell condom brand and Adler sounds too much like ‘addled’ to me.

Watersnail · 13/06/2019 04:59

Ansel

StoppinBy · 13/06/2019 05:23

I have to admit that as soon as I saw the name I thought of the condom brand sorry.

tiramisu1 · 13/06/2019 06:40

Ansel is a great name! Strong classic and memorable.

It has nothing to do with Hänsel which is a diminutive of Hans.

Adler is very unusual and is an eagle in German.

FamilyOfAliens · 13/06/2019 06:57

@FartnissEverbeans

Oh ok, they sound like surnames to me, but it seems from this thread that they are used as forenames in Germany.

fairybeagle · 13/06/2019 07:03

I'm going against the grain and saying Adler. Much prefer it

Lavenderblues · 13/06/2019 07:44

Adler is definitely NOT a first name in Germany. It means eagle. It's more likely a surname but not a common one.

MikeUniformMike · 13/06/2019 08:25

I prefer Adler but I don't really like either of them.

EssentialHummus · 13/06/2019 08:28

Ansel. Congratulations Flowers. I’ve only seen Adler as a surname.

SundayMorningSun · 13/06/2019 08:32

Ansel

BettyUnderswoob · 13/06/2019 11:13

If I were forced to choose... Ansel, but I dislike both.

He'd end up with the NN "Ann" though, surely?
