Hi, me and my partner really like Forrest for a baby boy, but our parents and most the family hate it! Opinions please? 😊

I love it ❤️ best film ever Forrest Gump ❤️

rachelgrace · 11/06/2019 20:32

I actually really like it as long as you are okay with Forrest Gump associations. However, wasn’t he named after a person from the Klu Klux Klan so maybe not?

BattenburgIsland · 11/06/2019 20:35

I dont personally like it because it sounds very All American which has bad associations for me... but I dont think its weird or hate it or anything. If you love it then use it! I dont think older people have a good grasp of what 'normal' names look like now days.
My gran actually said my childs name was ridiculous to my face. Still used it!

sincethereis · 11/06/2019 20:38

I don’t hate it at all.

But I wouldn’t personally give to my child because it’s so out there and they would have to be the right kind of person to carry it well.

Are you quite “chill” relaxed kind of people?

If so then it actually works pretty well.

If ur less unconventional then it will be hard for ur child to carry that name.

Just my opinion

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/06/2019 20:38

He will have a lifetime of 'Run Forrreeeeest Run' comments

PolarBearBubbles · 11/06/2019 20:50

I like it.

Stop discussing potential names with anyone other than your partner! They'll only put you off and it only matters what you think.

Penny4Thoughts · 11/06/2019 20:52

@PolarBearBubbles you know you’re in a baby name opinions part of the site ?

Gemmacrosby · 11/06/2019 20:56

Think I'm too bothered what other people think... i love nature etc.. but wouldn't say I'm relaxed and chilled haha.. I'm quite a stress head 😣

Gemmacrosby · 11/06/2019 20:58

And yes that's what's putting me off.... run Forrest run!

I was trying to say “a bit of a hippy” without being so offensive and stereotypy. hopefully u got my gist. Smile

ReganSomerset · 11/06/2019 21:39

Run, Forrest! Run!

River?

GlitterPixie · 11/06/2019 21:44

They will hear Run Forrest run a LOT

Tillygetsit · 11/06/2019 22:56

I'm originally from Nottingham so would assume you were a Reds fan who wasnt very good at spelling!

WittyFool · 11/06/2019 23:48

I don’t like it sorry. But I don’t think any name is loved by everyone.

BettyUnderswoob · 11/06/2019 23:53

I doubt he’ll hear “Run Forrest run” at all. Forrest Gump will not be a big or famous thing for people of his generation.

Gemmacrosby · 12/06/2019 07:35

@BettyUnderswoob yes that's what my partner said aswell. @ReganSomerset no don't like river..i did years ago but now I know afew children called it 😊

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/06/2019 09:54

I quite like it. It’s a nice nature name without sounding too soft.
If he gets ‘run Forrest, run’ that’s not the worst thing in the world. People on here say my daughter will get a particular negative phrase shouted at her, yet it is yet to happen. Kids don’t think like adults. Although saying that, adults do sing ‘Hey Jude’ to my son a fair bit. I just smile and make a snarky comment about originality...they don’t tend to do it again😆

diddlediddle · 12/06/2019 10:01

Love it. Strong but nice image.

Forrest Gump is a classic film but not one that most kids will have seen nowadays.

There are other Forrests eg. Whittaker. And it's getting more popular as a name so I doubt he would be teased.

Butterflyone1 · 12/06/2019 10:24

Without a doubt the child will get grief for it's nice. Whilst you like it, is it really fair to name another human being knowing full well they will be picked on just because you like the name?

Gemmacrosby · 12/06/2019 11:03

Theres lots of names in this day and age that will get some sort of remark of other ignorant people.. we'd never be able to choose names if that's the case.

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 12/06/2019 11:25

I don't like it at all, but also if it's because you like nature, why isn't it Forest?

Gemmacrosby · 12/06/2019 12:32

It's not just because i like nature.. my partner actually chose it. And that's just the way it's spelt

OP posts:
diddlediddle · 12/06/2019 12:47

Ignore everyone saying he'll be teased for it, he won't. I know one and everyone loves it. Forrest is the usual spelling so ignore all those haters too!

Gemmacrosby · 12/06/2019 14:07

@diddlediddle thankyou! Smile

OP posts:
BettyUnderswoob · 12/06/2019 14:48

why isn't it Forest?

Because OP hasn't appropriated a "nature word" to use as a name; it's already a name and that's how it's spelt!
