My cousin joked about me naming my baby Winston, at first I laughed but its really grown on me! And I am now actively considering it, DH doesn't know what to think Grin

Thoughts?

Good? Bad? Too old man? Too Churchill?

Fwiw we have a daughter called Harriet...

I’m not a fan sorry

piglet81 · 07/06/2019 07:40

I quite like it actually!

IneedKirstieandPhil · 07/06/2019 07:41

Quite like it. I know a little bit called Wilson which I really love.

fairybeagle · 07/06/2019 07:44

I like it, a nice name that's not unheard of, not popular and not weird. Lovely OP 😊

StrongleBerry · 07/06/2019 07:51

It's awful.

TrixieFranklin · 07/06/2019 07:51

Love it - I know one who is 7, nn Winnie.

lavenderblues · 07/06/2019 07:54

Winston is a great name. Strong cool and classic. And Churchill isn't a bad association, is it?

LittleKitty1985 · 07/06/2019 07:54

Kind of cute. Might be better for a pet though

DoingItForTheKids · 07/06/2019 07:56

I love it. It's on our list. It makes me think of 'chill Winston' rather than Churchill.....

Cassie71 · 07/06/2019 08:02

It was John Lenin's middle name.

Cassie71 · 07/06/2019 08:03

Lennon.

tiramisu1 · 07/06/2019 08:10

I like it! It sounds strong and masculine.

(And makes a refreshing change from the cutesy Alfie, Archie type names).

bridgetreilly · 07/06/2019 08:10

I know a Winston. I think it's great, though I admit that the 1984 connection is less positive than Churchill.

MikeUniformMike · 07/06/2019 09:00

Love it.

CassianAndor · 07/06/2019 09:03

Winstaaaaaaaahn!

what was that sitcom that had a guy called Winston in it? The above would be said in a Jamaican accent, possibly his mum?

I like it.

Icklepup · 07/06/2019 09:20

I like it for a dog

Breathlessness · 07/06/2019 09:22

Billie Piper’s son is Winston.

Breathlessness · 07/06/2019 09:24

Was the tv show Desmond’s?

golddustwomen · 07/06/2019 09:30

Yes yes yes !!!
I mentioned this to oh when pregnant with my son and I think he thought he I was joking. I wasn't, I love it !!!

CassianAndor · 07/06/2019 09:43

Breathless no - I've just checked, it was the Lenny Henry show. Knew it was about a DJ!

TheRLodger · 07/06/2019 09:45

CassianThere was a Winston on New Girl. Is that what you’re thinking of?

Personally I wouldn’t pick it. But it’s very pleasant acceptable name

FionasWineShow · 07/06/2019 09:59

It's one of those slightly off kilter names that does seem to work better for a dog.
Winston, Trevor, Derek, Colin.

Also, it really depends on your accent.

isntthatalwaystheway · 07/06/2019 10:08

I really like it, I know a toddler called Winston and his parents NN him Winnie - it's super cute Smile

PoppingGlitter · 07/06/2019 11:29

Oh yay, it is getting some good vibes, I think I am loving it more and more.

I never would have considered it but it's actually quite cute!

It doesn't make me think of old men. I imagine a trendy 40-something, black man with that name. Actually, I just realised I might thinking of Winston from Eastenders! Very cute for a boy too though.
