Name of my firstborn. Still love it.

Malyshek · 02/06/2019 18:54

I like it a lot and considered it for my son, but was put off by potential association with Felix the Cat.

coral13 · 02/06/2019 19:05

As someone with Felix as a surname... Felix the cat never comes up. When people hear my name wrong, I used to go "like the cat" and people would just go "huh?"

I love the name Felix but then I am biased. But I loved it so much that when I got married we had to have 2 surnames as I didn't want to get rid of Felix.

NunoGoncalves · 02/06/2019 19:15

Love it.

birdling · 02/06/2019 19:24

The cat. (Sorry)

Canone · 02/06/2019 19:29

Love it!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/06/2019 19:30

Meow- sorry!

DramaAlpaca · 02/06/2019 19:34

Nope, don't like. Sorry. I like the meaning though.

GlitterPixie · 02/06/2019 19:50

I love it

Pandatone · 02/06/2019 19:57

Ooh it does seem to divide opinion. The cat association doesn't bother me toooo much but maybe that's because I don't have cats??
I think of the name as having quite a European feel, which I like.
The lack of nicknames is maybe more significant for me. Those who have used felix / know felixes, does the full name tend to be used mostly?
Thanks for your responses Smile

Really dislike it, sorry. I feed my cat felix.

userabcname · 02/06/2019 19:59

I love this name but DH vetoed when we had our son! I know a teenage Felix and a toddler Felix - as far as I'm aware, neither shorten their name.

Peachbubble · 02/06/2019 21:00

I like it

Penny4Thoughts · 02/06/2019 21:01

Like it

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 02/06/2019 21:02

I have a Felix and I love his name - looking at baby names whilst I was pregnant, I came across 'Felix' and it clicked in my mind right away. I don't think there is a way Felix can be shortened, is there?

Malyshek · 02/06/2019 21:25

If I had a Felix I'd probably call him "Fel" for short.

Maybe we should wonder how Felix Youssoupov shortened his name (he was russian so there's zero doubt that he did use nicknames!)

VickyLouT · 02/06/2019 21:36

I have a Felix. I love the name and have no regrets. I shorten it to Fe. But I guess family tradition as we call his sister - E. Only once did some older gent in a shop hear me calling him Felix and said "like the cat" and I said simply. No. I was a tad irritated by him. A mum in a playground did ask me once "is your son called Phoenix? " ummmm no...

OhhMyLittleGirls · 02/06/2019 21:42

I really like it ;)

Rystall · 02/06/2019 21:47

I love it! I think the cat association is for people of a certain age only.. in a couple of years it won’t be a thing.
Go for it!! Fabulous name. 😍

Alsohuman · 02/06/2019 21:47

It’s our grandson’s name and we love it. I guess he’ll get called Lucky at some point in his life.

Ounce · 02/06/2019 21:47

Felix and his amazing underpants.

Pandatone · 02/06/2019 21:49

VickyLouT why people feel the need to make those sorts of remarks will always amaze me. Clearly you've chosen the name by this point and no, that's not the reason you chose it!

Yes Fe is a nice shortening. No desperate need to have a nickname, I'm just aware that names tend to get changed along the way. I'd be happy with the full version!

Just realised I've contradicted myself on the nickname front! Think what I was trying to get at is the nickname possibilities that others - school friends and the like - may come up with. Options seem more limited and I just wondered if that takes away a certain fun element. Then again, kids are pretty creative!

I'd be happy with using the full name myself. Maybe I'm making an issue where there isn't one!

I knew a Felix who was called Flea by his friends but he was also quite short.

floraloctopus · 02/06/2019 22:37

The only felix I know is the most obnoxious person I've ever met, no idea what he was like as a child though as he's 20 something now.
