What do you think of these names for a girl? I know Merrily is a bit out there, but I really like it and love the idea of Merry as a nickname for either of these.

Your post has reminded me of a girl I used to know who was always called Merry. I think her full name was Meredith. I also knew a girl called Merriman.

Don't like Merryn and Merrily will have the p**s taken out of her name for life surely?

lottiegarbanzo · 01/06/2019 21:04

Merryn is fine. Merrily is silly.

Fedoratheexploreer · 01/06/2019 21:04

I love Merryn

Saucery · 01/06/2019 21:05

Merrily is Merrily Watkins to me - exorcisms, annoying dd, drippy boyfriend.

Merryn is lovely.

Emmapeeler · 01/06/2019 21:06

Merryn is nice, as is Meriel.

Merrily - no.

Mac47 · 01/06/2019 21:07

I uses to work with a lady in her 40s called Merry as her full, given name.

CodenameVillanelle · 01/06/2019 21:08

Ding dong merrily on high?

Creatureofthenight · 01/06/2019 21:09

Meredith and Meriel are lovely and Merry is a natural nickname for either.
Merrily is just daft.

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/06/2019 21:10

I love Merrily. Looks like I'm in the minority so far though.

Rathkelter · 01/06/2019 21:20

I think Merry will get confused with Mary. Think of those times ahead when you're booking appointments or discussing your child over the phone..having to spell it out every time... it will drive you nuts!

Penny4Thoughts · 01/06/2019 21:26

Have you considered Marion?

MissMoodyMoo · 01/06/2019 21:26

I don't think any of those are actual real names and both sound like weird made up names

What about the Scottish name mirren/mirran/mirryn
I think it's a beautiful name

austenozzy · 01/06/2019 21:28

My daughter’s friend is called merryn, she’s Cornish. Nice name. Lerryn is a similar one that is also nice. Merrily is a bit odd though, imo.

Heyha · 01/06/2019 21:29

Merryn is a 'real' West Country isn't it? I know a couple anyway, both nice girls

Canone · 01/06/2019 21:40

I like Mirren too! Bit Helen Mirren though?

I didn’t think Merrily would be popular and I probably wouldn’t dare anyway but I think it’s so warm and lively sounding.

Love Merryn though. Yes, it’s a Cornish name.

I think Merrily would always get the side eye and a Leslie Philips comment of "Ding Dong!". Poor girl.

DuchessOfBallybrack · 01/06/2019 21:56

Love Merryn.

Merily no

Flicketyflack · 01/06/2019 21:59

What about Meredith and Merry as a nickname?

bridgetreilly · 01/06/2019 22:06

Merewyn

TitianaTitsling · 01/06/2019 22:09

Merrily we roll along! I know a Mirren, which you could use Merry as NN for?

CloserIAm2Fine · 01/06/2019 22:33

Merryn is a real name and is lovely. Merrily not so much

SoftSheen · 01/06/2019 22:35

Merryn- lovely name.

Merrily- not a name, don't do it!

Malyshek · 01/06/2019 22:40

How about Merrilyn ? Though you'd have to spell it out a lit. I do like Merryn too.

But frankly, if I met a Merrily, I probably wouldn't think twice about it, beyond asking her to spell out her name. So many made up names these days, plus globalization, I think most people wouldn't bat an eye unless the name were truly outrageous...

PissOffPeppa · 01/06/2019 22:49

Merryn is a real name Hmm I know one
