Hi there,

Looking for some suggestions for Giselle's sister! My husband and I are struggling to agree on any names. I like Annalise, Genevieve and Rosalie. He likes Juliette, Sylvie and Violet.

I would love it if you wonderful people could suggest some names in the same vein as the ones above.

Thank you!

P.S. No names that end with -elle please! People always mix up mine and my daughters names. We don't need another one in the mix lol

I assume Ghislaine (soft g) would be too close to Giselle?

I'm another one who thought of Genevieve before I saw your choices! It's beautiful

Giselle is lovely -edgy and cool. You need something equally edgy and cool, definitely outside of the top 100 too. Maybe Cordelia or Clementine

Patrica
Raquel

@RageAgainstTheVendingMachine Definitely too close! Although it does sound lovely. I seem to be more drawn to French names but so many of them are taken in my family.

@bluerememberedhills If we went with Genevieve it definitely wouldn't be shortened, not by family at least. People always try to shorten my name but I just correct them.

Rumy
Aphrodite
Ottilie

@indigo13 I've looked at French naming lists through the decades for inspiration as Giselle is of a certain time.

Someone's suggested Clementine before but the pronunciation issues bother me.

Darcy
Margot

Ballet names just came into my head but I actually like the names too!

BlehBleh · 27/05/2019 08:24

@Malyshek I'd rather use a different name than a derivative as it would be like settling IYKWIM.

Emily popped into my head when I read your question.

TatianaLarina · 27/05/2019 08:33

Are you in France OP?

Like the French pronunciation of Geneviève but really dislike the English pronunciation.

I think Rosalie goes best with Giselle from your options in the OP.

Other suggestions:

Manon
Maëlys
Anaïs

Romilly
Phoebe
Beatrice

Teddybearhunter · 27/05/2019 08:37

Sylvie & Juliet are my favourites from your list
Maybe Clara or Bernadette ?

veeboo · 27/05/2019 08:45

Margherite
Or another vote for Vivienne

BlehBleh · 27/05/2019 08:46

No, I'm in England but my mums side of the family are French speaking, hence the strong french influence in my choices.

I quite like Anaïs but my husband would never be able to wrap his head around how french it is lol.

See, I don't mind either pronunciation of Genevieve. I'd be happy for English family to pronounce it the English way and family abroad the French.
