Cecilia

Icklepup · 25/05/2019 09:49

Cecily

StCharlotte · 25/05/2019 10:00

Either way please don't shorten it to Ciss - or at least not around me Grin

Cecilia definitely. It's lovely.

Cicely is too "old lady". Sorry.

(Surprised to feel so differently about two such similar names!)

sincethereis · 25/05/2019 10:05

I hateeee Cecily- it’s so old grandma king of like Barbara or something.

HarrietM87 · 25/05/2019 10:06

I love Cecily. I think it’s elegant and less fussy than Cecilia. Also just hear the song when I hear Cecilia - could get annoying for her!

DramaAlpaca · 25/05/2019 10:08

Cecily.

Cecilia is a bit too fussy for me.

NameChange92 · 25/05/2019 10:12

Cecily

Don’t like Cecilia.

daisypond · 25/05/2019 10:14

Cecily. Cecilia is nice but too frilly.

OhMsBeliever · 25/05/2019 10:18

Cecily. It's lovely.

bridgetreilly · 25/05/2019 10:23

Cecily. But even better, Cicely.

HappyPunky · 25/05/2019 10:29

I like them both. I know a three year old Celia known as Cece she's adorable.

Whose last name is she having? I've always thought it's best to go with the mothers last name so if you're unmarried or if you've kept your name since they're so similar go with his choice of name but if she's having his last name or if you've changed to match him go with your choice. That evens it out a bit.

SilverySurfer · 25/05/2019 14:47

Cecilia is lovely.

Our DD2 is Cecily. 3 months old xx

CloserIAm2Fine · 25/05/2019 16:55

Cecilia

I actually think Cecily sounds more frilly than Cecilia

Smoliver · 25/05/2019 17:11

Seems like a 50/50 split, a bit like us! Grin

I like Cecilia, but I can't not think of that Simon & Garfunkel song when I hear it. Grin Not saying it's a bad thing, I just don't want her to be taunted by it for the rest of her life.

Cecily I've liked since I was a teenager. I met somebody in passing with the name and loved it ever since.

These two names are just a couple on a never ending shortlist though, so if we can't decide between the two, we might just have to scrap them both.

@StCharlotte No, I won't be calling her Ciss! If she were to have a nickname, it'd be Cece but definitely not Ciss! Grin

@Dandelion93 Oh lovely! Great name choice Wink Congratulations! x

Cecily gets my vote.

I know a 17 year old one. Hers gets shortened to Ces

Sophronia · 25/05/2019 17:22

Cecilia

DianaBlythe · 25/05/2019 17:22

Celia is a lovely shortening. Really cute for a little girl but also lovely on a woman. Cece is lovely too.

Cicely makes me think of Cicely Mary Barker who wrote/drew the flower fairies which I loved as a child!

Two really nice options!

I really wanted Celia for myself. Cicely doesn’t sound right with our surname.

Problems though:
A) DH doesn’t like it
B) A good friend from uni asked unannounced when I was in early pregnancy if I could not use it as she wanted it in case she ever has a daughter. It was her nan’s name so I do get that but did think it a bit of a cheeky request.

Luckily I have problem A otherwise I’d be more in a quandary/put out by problem B.

So go for it for me!

woodcutbirds · 25/05/2019 17:23

Cecilia.
I like Cecily except the 'silly' sound, which I think is more likely to bug her in primary school than the song.

Landfilly · 25/05/2019 17:24

My grandmother was Cecelia. Known as Cissy

Cecily is lovely but runs the risk of nickname Silly

MarieToulouseBerlioz · 25/05/2019 17:33

Cecilia I think!

OwlBeThere · 25/05/2019 17:43

I’ve just said both names so many times they don’t seem like real words anymore Grin
I think I prefer Cecily. But I like both.

shartsi · 25/05/2019 17:49

How about just Celia. I know 2
