Elena is lovely. Not a fan of the others.

BigusBumus · 21/05/2019 14:02

Nyree isn't very pretty, is it made up?

Love Annabelle and Sofia.

You'll get all differing pronunciations with Elena.

Purplelavenders · 21/05/2019 14:02

Elena is the most classy! Beautiful name

BlueMerchant · 21/05/2019 14:02

Sofia. Beautiful. Not too popular. My favourite.
Annabelle. Beautiful but too popular. Love nn Belle but again, it's popular.
Elena. Something about spelling just doesn't seem right to me. Nice enough sounding name.
Nyree. I don't like.

Purplelavenders · 21/05/2019 14:03

Elena is simply El en a. Not exactly difficult Confused

lostlobster · 21/05/2019 14:04

Sofia is beautiful

Twickerhun · 21/05/2019 14:05

There are loads of baby annabelles and. Any Sofia’s round here and I mean LOADS
Elena is beautiful

Tropicana1 · 21/05/2019 14:07

@Purplelavenders not necessarily - it's often pronounced El-ay-na with the inflection on the AY

MummyBear2352 · 21/05/2019 14:09

Sofia and Annabelle I like best x

BigusBumus · 21/05/2019 14:09

But El-en-a should therefore be spelt Eleanor shouldn't it?

I would have said El-aaaay-na outloud if i was reading Elena.

SallyWD · 21/05/2019 14:10

Elena is the best IMO

Justus22 · 21/05/2019 14:22

The pronunciation confusion is actually the very thing that puts me off. I like Elena pronounced El ay na I don't like Eleanor. Elena is of Greek origin and means bright, shining light. @bigusbumus Nyree isn't made up no, but my worry is people may think it is. Have you never heard of the actress Nyree dawn porter? It's a Maori name anyway, I knew a girl in childhood with the name but I've not met one since so it's very rare.x

I know a few Sofia's but no Annabelle's not even at my children's school so it's a lot less common here it seems x

I say I don't like Eleanor I do, I just wouldn't choose it personally as its the name of a friends daughter x

BigusBumus · 21/05/2019 14:56

In which case Elena (pronounced Elayyyna) is lovely, but i can't hep think that it sounds like you're dropping the H from Helena? (Which is a very classy name).

Justus22 · 21/05/2019 15:03

@bigusbumus it says on a name site that Elena is in fact the pan European version of Helen so you are right but I see them as names in their own right personally.x

I really like Nyree, but I did know one in my (Australian) school growing up, so I don't see it as made up.
Elena is lovely too, definitely prefer the elayna pronunciation.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 21/05/2019 15:08

Sofia

userabcname · 21/05/2019 15:13

Annabelle

starkid · 21/05/2019 15:15

I like Elena most, but would have pronounced it ellen-a. But as long as you tell people the correct way to say it people will get used to it :) people say my name wrong all the time but I get over it haha

HarryPottersSecretSister · 21/05/2019 15:26

Oh Elena is so lovely!

GreenEyedDevil · 21/05/2019 15:27

Sofia

Icklepup · 21/05/2019 16:28

Elena

Peachbubble · 21/05/2019 16:38

Annabelle

TheRedFox · 21/05/2019 16:38

If you're not keen on the "Eleanor" pronunciation then how about spelling it "Elayna" or "Elaina"?

That might solve some of the pronunciation issues you might otherwise have?
