Annabelle, Sofia, Nyree or Elena? What do you like best? Thanks in advance x

Elena is beautiful and I think the vast majority would pronounce it correctly (it's a very very common name in Eastern Europe/Russia so I imagine most people know at least one, although it's not overly common here).
I wouldn't mess about with the spelling.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/05/2019 18:02

They're all lovely. Nyree is the prettiest.
I'd go with Nyree Sofia

Fulltimemummy85 · 21/05/2019 18:32

My friend is called Elena, she's beautiful and so is the name ❤️

taylorlynn · 21/05/2019 19:19

Elena x

Watersnail · 21/05/2019 19:20

Annabelle

MarieToulouseBerlioz · 21/05/2019 20:17

I like Sofia and elena (is it pronounced Ellen-ah or el-ay-na?)

I'm not keen on nyree I've never come across it before.

There is nothing wrong with the name Annabelle but i just really dont like it at all!

Shadow1234 · 21/05/2019 20:25

I think Nyree is lovely, and my favourite on your list.
I would also go with Elayna spelling to save confusion (if you choose this name)
Sofia is lovely, but becoming quite popular.
Annabelle is the least favourite for me. (Not to my taste)

Proseccofuelled · 21/05/2019 23:16

Elena is a beautiful elegant name & I would also have assumed Uh-lay-na

Sofia & Annabel are pretty (prefer the Scottish spelling)

Never heard of the other one & don’t like it

Proseccofuelled · 21/05/2019 23:17

Spelling it Elayna would be ridiculous tbh

diddlediddle · 22/05/2019 01:56

Don't worry OP, Elena is a very well known name to most people and I would think it would be pronounced correctly on the whole. It does make me think of someone a bit Italian, Spanish maybe though so if you're blonde/blue eyed might be a bit weird.

Nyree is really lovely, interesting roots, unusual but makes sense as a name.

Annabelle and Sofia not in the same league to me. Both pretty dull and overused in various spellings

Purplelavenders · 22/05/2019 07:20

Elena would be El en a

Elayna would be El ay na

Justus22 · 22/05/2019 07:43

@purplelavenders it's not, listen to the theme tune for Disney's Elena of Avalor 😆 (my reliable source) or Google the pronunciation. You're not on your own thinking it though. @diddlediddle my three sons are blonde with blue eyes but dark complexions like their Dad who has dark hair and blue eyes but a whole family with brown eyes (besides my father in law) so I guess we will have to see. When abroad we have been mistaken for being dutch when together and my husband more frequently asked if he has greek/Spanish/Italian heritage but we're not and he hasn't, will have to see which name she suits. Nyree is pretty, I’d agree not in the same league as Sofia and Annabelle. Sofia/Sophia variants are incredibly popular in my experience, dd had four in her class!

DevonUkelele · 22/05/2019 09:40

The Maori version might be pronounced Nyree, but it is spelt Ngaire.

outsho · 22/05/2019 12:31

I like Annabelle but the recent horror movie has put me off it Grin.

I prefer Eleanor to Elena. Sofia is nice. Not keen on the made up one.

Justus22 · 22/05/2019 13:10

@devonukelele yes Nyree is the anglicised version of Ngaire and phonetically spelt, the actress Nyree Dawn Porter was originally Ngaire but was known by Nyree so others could correctly pronounce it as she lived and worked in the UK but was from New Zealand where her Maori name originates from. @outsho Nyree isn't made up it's a Maori name that originates from amew Zealand and not well known in the UK, but I understand many will think it is too because I have only ever known of one myself and most have never heard it. Annabel - this spelling only or Elena

Gingerninja01 · 22/05/2019 20:48

Sofia and Annabelle are really common. I like Elena and don’t think there’s anything wrong with Nyree.

Seaandsand83 · 22/05/2019 20:54

My older Sister is an Elena but it's pronounced Ella-na, she used to get so annoyed with people calling her Elayna, Eleena, Ellarna. It is a very beautiful name

Zazia · 22/05/2019 20:59

Nyree is very unusual for me but that doesn't mean anything . Just never heard it before.
All the other names are great. It's just down to your preference.

Chocmallows · 22/05/2019 21:04

Ngaire, pronounced Nyree is pretty.

DevonUkelele · 22/05/2019 22:19

In the same vein, you might like Ngaio (pronounced ny-oh). Very old-fashioned, but another traditional Maori name.
Ngaire is pretty, and still often used in NZ.

lauren711 · 24/05/2019 09:17

Sofia was one of my options if I had a girl, I love it! But they're all sweet, and I know a woman named Nyree and everyone comments on how they love her name as it's quite unique! Smile

Astronica · 24/05/2019 09:24

Annabel or Sofia, both lovely. If Annabelle spelling then Sofia is my favourite.
