I've been going round in circles with these names, seems like a different one is my favourite each week. Please help me!

Pick the one you like best and the one you like worst, and why.

Alana (/Alannah?)
Bethany
Emily
Anastasia
Erin
Elizabeth

Like Anastasia and Emily.

Worst Bethany and Erin. Alana is a bit 80s.

SmellMySmellbow · 16/05/2019 14:27

Like Erin and Emily. Dislike Anastasia and Alana

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 16/05/2019 14:29

I like bethany always have,think it's pretty
Dont like Emily too twee

TheVanguardSix · 16/05/2019 14:30

Elizabeth is the best (Eliza for short).

Bethany is my least favourite, however I do love the name Bethania.

userabcname · 16/05/2019 14:32

I like Anastasia and Elizabeth the best - very pretty, not too common, work well for any age.
Dislike Erin and Alana - Erin is uber popular in my area so getting bored of it now and I once knew a horrible Alana so negative associations!
Bethany and Emily are ok, prefer Bethany out of these two (in fact I prefer Beth either as a stand alone name or as a nn for Elizabeth).

Proseccofuelled · 16/05/2019 15:44

I love Alana but my husband vetoed it
Bethany is lovely
Elizabeth is one I’m not in love with but it does lend itself to all sorts of personalities & preferences - my favourite nickname is probably Libby with Beth a close second
Emily is ok
Anastasia - really dislike this
Erin - don’t like it

Your list is extremely varied which makes it hard to know what else you might love - possibly:

Iona
Emmeline
Eliza
Elsbeth
Beatrice

BlueMerchant · 16/05/2019 15:50

Erin is nicest. Classy and sassyGrin. Like Alana too for same reasons.
Bethany is awful. Bit 'wet' and no real substance to the name imo. Boring.

HappyDinosaur · 16/05/2019 15:51

Elizabeth is the one I like best and Alana is the one I like least.

daisypond · 16/05/2019 15:53

Anastasia and Elizabeth are my favourites. Alana and Bethany are my least favourite.

Harebel · 16/05/2019 15:53

Elizabeth is fantastic.

Alana and Anastasia are awful names.

IggyAce · 16/05/2019 15:55

Alana (/Alannah?) I like this, considered it for our DD

Bethany: No it’s dated

Emily: Nice but boring and popular.

Anastasia: reminds of 50 shades of grey

Erin: I like this.

Elizabeth: classic and lots of nn potential.

Carolcool · 16/05/2019 15:56

Elizabeth is the best- classic and wide range of 'for short' choices
Alana is the worst. Cringey Transatlantic connotations.

BuffySummerss · 16/05/2019 16:07

I like Bethany & Emily. I love Beth as a nn. They are well known, easy to say and work well for all ages groups.
I hate Alana/Alannah. Bit naff. Elena is much nicer imo.

LarkDescending · 16/05/2019 16:43

I like Elizabeth best (are you going for Beth? - lovely).

Then Emily, though it doesn't rock my world.

Not keen on the others. Alana probably least favourite. My DP is an Alan, hates his name, and says he can't understand why anyone would want to turn it into a girl's name!

You didn't ask for suggestions, but Alexandra & Eloise spring to mind.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 16/05/2019 16:48

Anastasia is my fav, a little different (where we live anyway) makes a difference from all the Evie, Ella, Isla and something ending in -May.

goose1964 · 16/05/2019 16:48

Erin and Emily are lovely I like Anastasia the others not so much.

Shadow1234 · 16/05/2019 17:06

Have always loved the name Erin, so that would be my first choice.
Anastasia would be my second choice.
Not keen on the others

HeronLanyon · 16/05/2019 17:09

Elizabeth (middle name of dd)
Anastasia (unusual but beautiful and love the possible nn Ana)

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/05/2019 18:11

Love them all. Not helpful, sorry

formerbabe · 16/05/2019 18:17

Raindropsonroses27 · 16/05/2019 18:25

SleepingStandingUp · 16/05/2019 18:31

Anastasia best
Elizabeth worst

Staffori · 16/05/2019 18:42

Alana 0/10 - Don't like any boys' names turned into girls names and has no natural short form.
Bethany 8/10 - Pretty name and can be shortened. I approve of giving the bearer a choice.
Emily - 5/10 Pretty but seems to me to be very common. I'm a granny and this was a very popular name for my friends' daughters.
Anastasia - 8/10 Pretty, unusual and works in many languages.
Elizabeth - 8/10 Classic, timeless and has many different ways of shortening.
