I've been going round in circles with these names, seems like a different one is my favourite each week. Please help me!

Pick the one you like best and the one you like worst, and why.

Alana (/Alannah?)
Bethany
Emily
Anastasia
Erin
Elizabeth

Alana (/Alannah?) - don’t like this
Bethany - fine but a bit boring, much prefer Beth
Emily - wet, dull
Anastasia - 50 Shades
Erin - lovely
Elizabeth - lovely

Alana is great, a strong handsome name.

Emily is not a bad name but so so so overused.

Prefer Bethan to Bethany. Briony is better.

madeyemoodysmum · 16/05/2019 18:57

Elizabeth. So many options

Calixtine · 16/05/2019 18:57

Best: Erin or Elizabeth

Worst: Anastasia or Alana

bridgetreilly · 16/05/2019 19:16

The only one I really like is Anastasia. The others are just a bit... bland, maybe? Boring? Sorry.

Tillygetsit · 16/05/2019 23:11

I like Elizabeth best. Great sound and loads of good nns.
I like Bethany least because to me it sounds a bit drippy sorry.

AnotherRubberDuck · 17/05/2019 11:45

What a mix of opinions, I'm not sure that helped!

To all of you saying the names are a bit boring, I agree! The problem is I just don't love any names this time round. So we'll probably end up just going with something safe and boring.

Best: Anastasia - strong, beautiful, not over-used but recognisable, lots of lovely short forms and nns.

Worst: Alana/Alannah - several spelling and pronunciation variations, very 1980/90s when it was over-used, bland sounding.

Susiedog · 17/05/2019 12:05

I love Alana or Alannah best (not sure which spelling I prefer as both are pretty).

I think my least favourite would be Anastasia. Having said that though I like the Ana-stace-ia pronunciation but dislike the other way I've heard it said. Not sure why. Just personal preference.

Bethany is nice, but seems quite dated now. It was so popular twenty years ago when I had my first, but I don't know of any little Bethany's now. I like it though.

tisonlymeagain · 17/05/2019 12:08

Best Emily, worst Bethany

Icklepup · 17/05/2019 12:26

Erin
Don't like the others

CupOhTea · 17/05/2019 12:48

Best:

Anastasia & Elizabeth

Worst:

Bethany & Erin

None are dreadful though. All very nice imo.

BrightOink · 17/05/2019 15:09

Elizabeth.

You have a great choice of nn's

Eliza
Beth
Bethany
Liz
Lizzie
Bet
Betty

Etc etc

starkid · 17/05/2019 15:25

Least favourite is Elizabeth, and favourite is Alannah (this spelling).

outvoid · 17/05/2019 15:36

Alana (/Alannah?)- friend in school was Alanah, she’s the only one I’ve ever met. I don’t mind it but wouldn’t use it myself
Bethany- very 90s, had its day I think
Emily- common but classic, doubtful it’ll ever go out of fashion
Anastasia- not a fan
Erin- favourite of your choices
Elizabeth- don’t mind this, prefer Eliza
