hi- previously made thread 'sister for Violet', and after a lot of lovely suggestions, nothing beat Ingrid or Amelie!
I prefer Amelie but DH prefers Ingrid, but we can't decide on one!
also, I forgot to mention she's four days old and I'm feeling a bit stressed because she needs a name Blush
Big sister is Violet.
Which do you prefer and why? thank you x

I prefer Amelie.

Ingrid is harsh, unless you have a lovely accent from a Scandinavian country. In Grid makes me think of cattle grids for some reason.

SnowdropFox · 12/05/2019 12:48

Ingrid. It pairs well with Violet, it's unusual without being weird, like it's meaning and someone in the other thread said about the nn Inky, so cute!

Amelie is just bland to me and very common in my area.

If she suits either then it'll be the right decision either way Smile

Ex28 · 12/05/2019 12:50

Amelie. Might be my accent but I don’t like the way Ingrid sounds.

floraloctopus · 12/05/2019 12:53

I prefer Ingrid but I think Amelie goes better with Violet as they are both 'softer' sounding names.

JaretsGirlfren · 12/05/2019 13:09

I love Ingrid, Amelie seems fairly popular. If my DD didn’t already have an ‘I’ name I’d use Ingrid if I was even having a baby!

LoveB · 12/05/2019 13:14

I vote Amelie! I much prefer it

Calixtine · 12/05/2019 13:34

Ingrid is amazing! Strong, uncommon and substantial. I do like Amelie but it seems a bit eternally childish. Definitely Ingrid.

NuffSaidSam · 12/05/2019 13:50

I prefer Amelie.

I think it's really overused, but I prefer the sound to Ingrid. Ingrid just has such a harsh/ugly sound, like Bridget. I think I'm just not a fan of the g and d sounds in a name.

Violet is also quite 'of the moment' so it goes better with Amelie in that respect too.

Some in-between names you might like?

Iliana
Imelda
Isolde

MaLittleBubbas · 12/05/2019 14:11

Thank you for the replies :) she actually suits both names. DH just said he really doesn’t mind and I can choose either, but every time I try and pick one I realise its a decision I (and she) will have to live with for the rest of our lives!

Idalia is another

bringbackfonzi · 12/05/2019 14:14

Love Ingrid, cool and unusual. You could soften it with a nickname. Amelie is to me a bit insipid and Milly as nn is very popular. As for Ingrid being Scandanavian, well Amelie is French so in both cases you are using a name from another culture.

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2019 14:18

Amalia
Adalia

I also wonder if Enid might appeal as its slightly softer with just the d not the g also

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2019 14:19

Heidi is super cool

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2019 14:20

Actually Astrid is probably the 50/50 name

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2019 14:21

Also Elodie

Ok I’ll stop now Grin

Thertruthisoutwhere · 12/05/2019 14:44

Isolde is gorgeous as is Ingrid. Amelie is nice but over used imo

LynetteScavo · 12/05/2019 16:05

Nancy

IncrediblySadToo · 12/05/2019 16:06

Amelie, it’s FAR nicer.

Ingrid is serious & stuffy (sorry, but I’m helping your DD out here!)

midsomermurderess · 12/05/2019 16:12

Ingrid. Amelie, like Emily, is wet, feeble, insipid. I have never understood the appeal of names like that.

pearldeodorant · 12/05/2019 16:18

Amelie

Definitely not Ingrid. I had a friend at school with it as a middle name and people made fun of her incessantly for years

riotlady · 12/05/2019 16:23

Love Ingrid!

Variations of Amelie/Amelia/Emilia etc are too popular these days for my taste

JohnWolfenstein · 12/05/2019 16:23

Depends if you want something common or slightly unusual. In DD (aged 5)'s class there is an Amelia, an Amelie, an Emily, an Emilia and two additional Millys. (At least one of the Emilia/Amelies are NN Milly as well!)

So I'd go for Ingrid.

JohnWolfenstein · 12/05/2019 16:24

We also know two other Amelies and an Amelia who are not in dds class, but around that age. 🤷

Ribeebie · 12/05/2019 16:31

I much prefer Amelie
