Middle names for Kaelyn?

liajayne · 09/05/2019 19:40

So basically I want a name for a girl that isn't common, however I don't mind if the middle name is slightly more common (but not super common). I have fallen in love with the name Kaelyn (Kay-Lin - almost like Caitlin without the t) but I'm stuck for a middle name!

I've come up with:

  • Kaelyn Paige
  • Kaelyn Jade

But I haven't fallen in love with these like I have for the first name, so does anyone have any other suggestions? My surname is Robinson so obviously I need something that flows nicely with that - I'm not too fussy about the length as long as it doesn't take 10 minutes to pronounce Wink .

I've been ignoring everyone and their pathetic jokes and hatred towards names begging with K up until now... But I dont understand why people feel the need to do it? If it's constructive then fine carry on - but half of these comments haven't exactly been helpful have they?

I asked for middle names - regardless of how the name is spelt, it will still be spelt the same way so instead of everyone saying it should be spelt with a C they could have not commented or actually just answered my question?!

I know two male Caelans and a female Caelan

Swearwolf · 09/05/2019 22:36

Bloody hell - she asked about middle names and said more than once that she loves the first name. How hurtful to keep banging on about how you think it's chavvy because it starts with a K (which honestly, I don't know anyone in real life who thinks that. How many Kates are there?!). Pointing out an association that might have been missed is one thing, but stop piling on now?

Op, call your baby Kaelyn if you love it. Yes she may have to spell it, but I have to spell my name a lot too and I can't say I've ever had an issue with that. I'm a pretty good speller...

There are some nice suggestions here. As someone with first middle and last names that all end in a 'n' sound, which I always found clunky, a name that ends in a vowel will flow better.

Clearyweary · 09/05/2019 22:47

Another one here who’s immediate thought was morphine. Sorry.

Tillygetsit · 09/05/2019 23:13

Well said Swearwolf. You cant use the "Why ask for opinions?" arguement when the OP has only asked for middle names. I always think that posters who use the chav word are worried they won't be seen as posh enough 😂 I've seen Archie and Harrison tarnished with this brush on here before and the poshest family in the country have chosen those names.
OP how about Kaylin Eliza?

Dhalandchips · 09/05/2019 23:17

Morphine immediately!

MercyBodle · 10/05/2019 02:32

I like Kaelyn Felicity best from your shortlist. Felicity is quite lovely and very upbeat and they sound good together.

There's nothing wrong with names starting with K op, (Katharine, Kate, Keeley, Kerensa all fine), it's just that Kaelyn fits a pattern of many alternatively spelt names which feel very individual to the parent but in fact fit a pattern that makes them seem much more common to others - eg K instead of C, often using 'ai' sounds but spelt 'ae', 2 syllables end in n, 'lyn' ending which is a very common American pattern of naming (Gracelyn, Maelyn, Raelyn , Braelyn etc).

BasiliskStare · 10/05/2019 03:34

@liajayne - I am not too struck with Kaelyn - But I do take your point that is not the question you are asking.

I would say of your list , I like Felicity the best.
Also - just a thought - a good friend of mine always goes by his middle name now as he hates his first name. So when I gave my DS his names I made sure middle name was a decent alternative choice in case he hated the name we had landed him with Grin I think Felicity is lovely & not hugely used - ( I did once have a friend who called herself Fliss day to day but am sure other diminutives are used also if wanted ) . If it were me I would avoid Jade or Paige as they don't really give a more classic alternative . I think Marie is nice and to be honest I know you said Grace overused as a middle name but such a lovely and classic name.

That said & I have said it before I think Stella is a somewhat classic without being overused. "Kaelyn Stella" ?

I do think the K spelling reminds me of Kaolin - BUT @liajayne - I know that is not what you asked - so from me - thumbs up to Felicity and how about Stella as middle name ? . Anyhow - that aside - best wishes if baby girl. Flowers

BasiliskStare · 10/05/2019 03:37

@liajayne Oh goodness - started this and then came back to it so have cross posted with @MercyBodle - so second vote for Felicity here Smile - and Stella Grin - All very best whichever you choose.

Rangeloaf · 10/05/2019 07:27

I've been ignoring everyone and their pathetic jokes and hatred towards names begging with K up until now... But I dont understand why people feel the need to do it? If it's constructive then fine carry on - but half of these comments haven't exactly been helpful have they?

I guess people feel might feel sorry for the future Kaelyn and are trying to get you to rethink the name.

it doesn’t have to be associated with illness does it

I’m afraid you can’t control what other people associate it with. And a LOT of people here have said that’s their first thought. That means through her life that will be many people’s first thought when they meet her which doesn’t seem very fair

liajayne · 10/05/2019 07:48

Kaelyn and Cailyn are pronounced exactly the same... Why does it matter which f*ing way I spell it! Out of the two Kaelyn looks better to me. I didn't ask for peoples opinions on the name - I asked for middle names! If people aren't going to be helpful why bother posting?

OP posts:
Bigearringsbigsmile · 10/05/2019 07:56

I would think morphine if it was spelled with a c too I'm afraid. It's the sound. ..its exactly the same as kaolin.
What about caitlin? Almost the same but the t takes away the association?

formerbabe · 10/05/2019 08:01

The name sounds nice but I agree that its definitely better spelt with a C. The K spelling makes it appear totally different...I'm choosing my words carefully here.

jcq17 · 10/05/2019 08:03

Kaelyn Rae

BasiliskStare · 10/05/2019 08:25

@liajayne - so sorry if you thought I was being unhelpful , but I did try to answer your question ( see post) - it is obviously your choice re your daughters' name. I think Felicity would be a great middle name , as would Grace. Actually - another suggestion , which I do not think is very popular these days but lovely - Frances. (Worth a thought @liajayne? )

liajayne · 10/05/2019 08:31

@BasiliskStare nah - I wasn't aiming it at you, your response was constructive and explained things... I'm on about the responses that have literally just said spell it with a C or morpthine becuase they aren't exactly helpful 🤷🏼‍♀️

I want it to begin with the K becuase when I see Cailyn my brain immediately adds a t in the middle and I read Caitlin (I know too many caitlins and want something a little different). Would the spelling be better is it was Kailyn?

OP posts:
taylorlynn · 10/05/2019 08:40

The OP has clearly just asked for a middle name for Kaelyn so everyone making stupid remarks needs to leave the conversation. Not everyone is going to like every name but some of the comments on here are bullying and goady. If you haven't got something nice to say don't bloody say it.

MindyStClaire · 10/05/2019 15:08

Love all the people saying Kaelyn is tacky, but that Caitlin pronounced Kate-lin is absolutely fine. It's pronounced Cotch-leen, Kate-lin is a far bigger abomination than Kaelyn in my eyes.

MikeUniformMike · 10/05/2019 15:20

Felicity is a lovely middle name

PinkieTuscadero · 10/05/2019 15:25

Christ but MN is full of dull Little Englanders bleating on about things being 'chavvy'.

NorthernRunner · 10/05/2019 15:30

Didn’t have to open the thread to know someone would have piped up with the chavvy insult Hmm

I think Kaelyn Belle is nice

JugglingMummyof2 · 10/05/2019 15:34

Annmorphine? Sorry but it is what I always think when I hear the name

JugglingMummyof2 · 10/05/2019 15:36

Oh sorry - I only saw the first page. I'll get my coat...
