Ivy or Artemis / Misty

DC2 due in a few weeks.

We were pretty set on Ivy for a girl but I've recently met several baby Ivys, and that has put me off a bit. Plus I kind of want her to have an option on a longer fancier version, and I don't think Ivy can be short for anything(?).

I love the name Artemis, with Misty for short. DH is not sure. Is it a bit much?

We already have a Leo, short for Leopold. We have a long surname that I have to spell every time, so I want something fairly easy to spell.

Misty is a name for a dog. Sorry Op!

Ivy is good.

Aimily · 06/05/2019 22:32

I'm not sure on Ivy personally, but I think I have issues with floral names.

I love Artemis, I actually pinned it for a boy, with Arty as nn 😳 oh veto'd.

Misty is an adorable nn or even as the given name it's so cute!!

I think you're onto a winner with Artemis either way

DameSquashalot · 06/05/2019 22:33

I love Artemis

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 06/05/2019 22:36

There is a little girl in dds class called Artemis. I’d never really heard of the name before but because she’s a lovely little thing I think it’s a fantastic name! She’s called Arty by most people.

M0reGinPlease · 06/05/2019 22:39

I know a little girl called Misty. In her case it's short for Melissa.

Calixtine · 06/05/2019 22:52

Artemis is awesome but I really dislike Misty, sorry. How about Ari for short? Leo and Ari sound good together.

NameChangedNoImagination · 06/05/2019 23:38

Artemis, nn Misty, is lovely.

Bumblebeesmum · 06/05/2019 23:43

Ivy is lovely the other two are horrid

PlatypusLeague · 06/05/2019 23:50

Ivy

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2019 23:50

Ivy is great.

Artemis is too much & Misty is awful.

pipsqueakthethird · 07/05/2019 00:05

Artemis is a cool name and I am glad that you're suggesting it for a girl - she's a goddess! I know a boy called Artemis but I don't really get it as a boys name.

HOWEVER I think a lot of people won't find it "easy to spell" even though to me it seems straightforward. I also think a lot of people will think it's a boys name. Depends how much these areas of potential confusion bother you, with a more difficult surname.

It's definitely more interesting than Ivy. I personally prefer Iris x

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 07/05/2019 00:06

Artemis is beautiful

Tavannach · 07/05/2019 01:20

Artemis is wonderful, and the only one I've met was really lovely.

MercyBodle · 07/05/2019 03:06

Artemis/Misty is wonderful! I've also seen Tess suggested for an Artemis nn, though I think Misty is great. Ivy is sweet but not in the same league, and very popular if that matters to you.

Bentley111 · 07/05/2019 08:27

On my list should we ever have a girl. I love it!
Ivy is lovely but not as interesting

afterashowerr · 07/05/2019 08:46

Artemis is great, I know an Artemis nn Amy but I prefer Tess. Misty is cute but a bit naff, I wouldn't want people to assume it was her real name when she has a classier name like Artemis.

CherryPavlova · 07/05/2019 08:55

Artemis is lovely. Misty is also nice. My grandmother was Ivy so it feels like a very old fashioned service name.

I like Artemis but it’s heading into pretentiousness. I wouldn’t be brave enough. Not keen on Misty. Diana is the Roman name for the same goddess and much more usable, strangely. I strongly dislike Ivy. Iris is much nicer. Irene?

MikeUniformMike · 07/05/2019 10:00

Artemis is a bit much. I dislike Ivy.

Sparklysunflower · 07/05/2019 10:00

Artemis is lovely and goes well with Leopold!

I really wouldn't shorten to Misty though..!

Sparklysunflower · 07/05/2019 10:02

I don't like Ivy.

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 07/05/2019 13:51

I know an Artemis who goes by her full name. I LOVE it - unusual, beautiful, feminine, strong. I wouldn't say it was pretentious. Not so keen on Misty as a nickname but it's okay.

Ivy does feel a bit like an old-fashioned service name as a PP said. It's perfectly nice but a bit ordinary compared to Artemis.

IvanaPee · 07/05/2019 13:52

Artemis is awful! Misty is worse.

I like Ivy.

SoftBlocks · 07/05/2019 13:54

Quite like Artemis, Misty is a bit stripper-y.
