Lian pronounced Le-anne. Do you think the spelling gives it a new lease of life?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Madamedeluxe · 04/05/2019 17:32

Not really, I read it as Liam.

Shelbybear · 04/05/2019 17:34

I though it was a boys name. Pronounced like Liam. If you like Leanne I wouldn't spell it Liam you'll be forever corrected people and spelling it, not fun. A child certainly wouldn't thank you for it.

Reaah · 04/05/2019 17:35

I read it as Lie Ann

BertrandRussell · 04/05/2019 17:35

No. Because it won’t be pronounced the way you want, and people will think it’s a typo for Liam.

FaithInfinity · 04/05/2019 17:35

It will be read as Liam, it will be spelt as Leanne or Lianne. Poor child will spend the rest of their life correcting people.

MountainEagle · 04/05/2019 17:36

If I saw it written I’d correct it to Liam. If I heard it spoken I’d automatically write it as Leanne.

PeachNut · 04/05/2019 17:36

I know a Lian. Doesn’t seem to cause any issues.

bodgersmash · 04/05/2019 17:36

I know a Lianne - could that work?

Isadora2007 · 04/05/2019 17:37

No. It doesn’t work. Use Lianne or Leeann etc as there are a few actual versions of the name anyway.

Greenyogagirl · 04/05/2019 17:37

I know a boy called Lian (lee-un) who changed it as soon as he was old enough. Everyone called him Liam or Lie-ann

WaitrosePigeon · 04/05/2019 17:43

Lie-Ann

PlatypusLeague · 04/05/2019 18:37

I'd wonder if it was a typo for Lion.

Leanne is a good spelling. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

PippilottaLongstocking · 04/05/2019 18:41

I’d pronounce it LEE-yun not Leanne. And assume you’d meant to call them ‘Liam’

BogglesGoggles · 04/05/2019 18:42

I knew a Lian growing up. She was a genius. It won’t be mispronounced or confused for liam unless you live in a back water.

BogglesGoggles · 04/05/2019 18:43

And don’t use Leanne. Is that even a real name? Lian is a nice traditional name.

UCOinanOCG · 04/05/2019 18:45

Leanne is a real name. I am friends with one. Lian looks like you have misspelled Liam.

mummyhaschangedhername · 04/05/2019 18:48

My friend has a Lian, suits him. she Italian if that makes a difference. It autocorrects all the time though.

FuzzyShadowChatter · 04/05/2019 18:51

I read Lian as Lee-ehn like similar -ian names. For -anne, it needs another n or an e. I'd assume it was a unisex name.

A quick search has shown that it might possibly be a Hebrew version of Leanne, but it still isn't pronounced that way, it's closer to lee-Yahn.

I think either Lian or Liann could be a nice name, but not said the same way.

Icklepup · 04/05/2019 19:37

Use Leanne

pipsqueakthethird · 04/05/2019 20:42

There's an author called Lian Hearn. I think it's nice. People will get confused tho but easily corrected

Sophronia · 04/05/2019 23:18

I know a male German Lian.

Wolfiefan · 04/05/2019 23:20

No. It just looks like you can’t spell.

JoyceDivision · 04/05/2019 23:22

Ian or Liam.

Sorry op, it's not my cup of tea.

Hope whatever name you choose you have a healthy happy baby Smile

TildaTurnip · 04/05/2019 23:22

Is that even a real name?

Really?

Casmama · 04/05/2019 23:23

I think Leanne is quite a harsh sounding name and not one I would go for.
To spell it Lian is daft and your child would be the one to pay the price for that so I would strongly advise against it..
