With Andy/Addie as a nn?

love it. Addie is super nice for like a less feminine name and like Adeline.

Like Adelaide as well

Bumblebeesmum · 28/04/2019 20:40

Love it although the fact there are two commonly used pronunciations wouldn’t bother me so it’s worth making sure you’d be ok with that

ilovecheese1 · 28/04/2019 20:43

@Bumblebeesmum really? ‘Ada-Line’ to me, what is the other pronunciation?

OP posts:
NightmareLoon · 28/04/2019 20:44

There's a lovely song 'Sweet Adeline' :)

Noonemournsthewicked · 28/04/2019 20:46

I love it. Makes me think of 'The age of Adeline' and who wouldn't want to be linked to Blake Lively?
Lovely name.

FraggleRocking · 28/04/2019 20:47

Adda-line
A-da-line
Adda-leen
A-da-leen
I think it’s a really nice name no matter how it is pronounced but it will be mis-pronounced. Love the nicknames.

Divgirl2 · 28/04/2019 21:10

I've never heard it before and assumed Addeh-leen. It's nice enough, I prefer Adelaide though.

Chimchar · 28/04/2019 21:20

Love it!

Argeles · 28/04/2019 21:21

A beautiful name.

Amibeingcrazy · 28/04/2019 21:23

Love it beautiful name and I love Addie as nn. It was on our short list and is the only name apart from the one we chose I still love a decade later.

bridgetreilly · 28/04/2019 21:29

Ad-uh-line is how I've always heard it said. It's okay, but not my favourite kind of name.

BeTheHokeyMan · 28/04/2019 21:34

Love it love it love it Smile

Definitely a favorite of mine

Jumblebee · 28/04/2019 21:45

DD2 is called Adeline, so obviously I'm biased and love it Grin

It does get mispronounced a lot though "Add-a-leen" which I believe is the French pronunciation? And lots of people comment with "how unusual!" but she suits it, she's out Paddy Addy Grin

suziQ10 · 28/04/2019 22:24

Lovely 😊

MondeoFan · 28/04/2019 22:26

Yep I think it's fab, uncommon and pretty

WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour · 28/04/2019 22:28

I wouldn't know if it were to be prounouncef Ada-Line or Ada-leen... but not a biggie. I like either.

Love Adalaide which was on our short list.

Onceuponatime21 · 28/04/2019 22:29

There's a grown up Adeline in my family, and she's awesome so I love it.

TheBulb · 28/04/2019 22:31

Virginia Woolf’s first name. What’s not to love?

PlatypusLeague · 28/04/2019 23:30

Not keen, but clearly I'm in the minority here!

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 28/04/2019 23:51

I love it but not keen on addie as a nickname as it sounds so American which kind of puts me off using it myself.

With the pronunciation points above I pronounce it like "adda-lyne" (this is after watching the film age of adeline with Blake lively :)

Reasonstobeearful · 28/04/2019 23:53

Wasn't this a character in that awful sitcom bread? Big hoop earrings and a perm?

MercyBodle · 29/04/2019 01:13

Not real keen on Adeline. And I've come across 3 different pronunciations (though I like your pronunciation best) -' line' like mine, 'leen', 'luhn' often spelt Adelyn though I have seen Adeline pronounced more like Adelyn (mainly in the US).

I much prefer the beautiful Adelaide.

sunday38 · 29/04/2019 04:45

Love it, was on our shortlist for DC2 but we were planning on Ada as a shortening. Had a boy in the end though Smile

MustardYellowJumper · 29/04/2019 06:42

I know a baby Adeline, lovely name. Still unusual, but potentially gaining in popularity!

Bumblebeesmum · 29/04/2019 12:21

Adeline rhyming with rhyme = popular in US
Adeline rhyming with seen = popular in French
I believe the US is more common here but not sure - I think both are sweet & I'm not someone it would bother but I know lots get really frustrated by pronunciation issues

I love it - great name :)
