We’ve narrowed our shortlist down to Beatrix and Maeve. We (and our son) have quite celtic names and our fave celtic girls name is Maeve. But we really love nn Bea and Bebe. Please help!

love them both. Beatrix Maeve is beautiful. I like them both as first names though.

I much prefer Maeve, it's gorgeous.

Beatrix is a lovely name, and Bea or Bebe are nice diminutives, but she might end up getting called Trixie - which is awful, unless you happen to be a Yorkshire terrier.

Fr3d · 04/04/2019 22:57

Maeve.

RoseMartha · 04/04/2019 22:57

Neither but if i had to choose one it would be Beatrix

Tillygetsit · 04/04/2019 23:37

I like both. Maeve is gentler and Beatrix feistier. In my family she'd be a Beatrix!

BrassBed · 05/04/2019 00:07

Maeve. Or Medbh.

BrassBed · 05/04/2019 00:08

And you can’t get much feistier than Medbh, warrior queen of Connacht — ruthless, much-married, violent and cunning.

FoofFighter · 05/04/2019 00:13

Maeve is very soft and pretty.

GlitterPixie · 05/04/2019 00:19

Maeve

sandi2019 · 05/04/2019 00:20

Maeve

AntiHop · 05/04/2019 00:24

I like them both but I'd chose Beatrix because I like to be able to shorten a name, and people will constantly spell maeve wrongly.

elderlyhippo · 05/04/2019 00:28

I''ve only ever come across Maeve written down (Chalet School books)

How is it said? Mave to rhyme with Dave? Or May-eve?

Fr3d · 05/04/2019 01:15

Rhymes with Dave. And you can also spell it Meadhbh Grin . Still rhymes with Dave

MercyBodle · 05/04/2019 01:21

I love both these names, so not much help here. Does one sound better with the surname? Maeve is intriguing and understated and Beatrix is feisty. Maeve by a pinch.... just.

OwlBeThere · 05/04/2019 01:23

Maeve for me. Beatrix sounds a bit severe although I do love Bea and Bebe. (As an aside my niece is called Phoebe but we all call her Bee/Bebe, Just a thought if it’s the nn you like).

Peachbubble · 05/04/2019 06:13

I vote for Maeve

EngagedAgain · 05/04/2019 06:43

I'm slightly more inclined towards Beatrix. Maybe as a PP suggested, the one that goes better with surname.

HelenaJustina · 05/04/2019 06:51

Love Maeve, know at two fabulous ones!

user1474894224 · 05/04/2019 07:00

Beatrix. Beautiful name. (I've always struggled with Maeve like poster above) Although maybe see when baby comes out.

autumnkate · 05/04/2019 10:17

I find Beatrix really hard to say! Be-ah- trix? Beer- trix?

Much prefer Maeve.

shumway · 05/04/2019 10:20

Both nice. Think I like Maeve best.

RoseReally · 05/04/2019 10:23

Maeve! Beautiful name as as PP said, doesn't get much feistier than a warrior queen of Connaught. I do like Beatrix too though.

HarrietM87 · 05/04/2019 10:32

Maeve! It means she who intoxicates (from memory). Brilliant name.

AdaColeman · 05/04/2019 10:38

Maeve!

( I prefer Beatrice to Beatrix)

whitehalleve · 05/04/2019 10:39

Definitely Beatrix, but that's because the two Maeves I know are so wet and annoying
