Torben?

Hello!

Expecting dc2 in April and currently have 1 boys name on the list that dh loves - I like it but I'm only half sold. Tonight he suggested Torben. I wasn't sure at first but the more I say it the more I like it.

We like fairly uncommon names that can be shortened to more well known nicknames so the child has an option if they want a shortened/less unusual name. Our DDs name is like this and I guess in this case he would have the option of Toby or Ben?

What are your thoughts? Do you know any?

I know one and love

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/03/2019 21:27

Is it an actual name though? Like Norwegian or similar?

Connieston · 27/03/2019 21:29

I've not heard it before but I like it.

NashvilleQueen · 27/03/2019 21:29

It makes me want to sing ‘oh Jeremy Torben’. But I’m juvenile.

bakingdemon · 27/03/2019 21:30

@DrinkFeckArseGirls There's a character in Borgen called Torben I think, so certainly Danish

ZebraKid71 · 27/03/2019 21:33

Yeah, from a quick Google search it is scandinavian.

To me it sounds like someone is pronouncing turban incorrectly!

MeowthThatsRight · 27/03/2019 21:48

I know a Torgeir who goes by Tor but I’ve never heard of a Torbay. I like it.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 27/03/2019 21:48

I don’t like it at all. Sorry OP

MeowthThatsRight · 27/03/2019 21:49

*Torben ffs. I’ve heard of Torbay.

Thirtyysomething · 27/03/2019 21:50

Love it, you could have Tor for short which I also love.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/03/2019 21:53

I can see that appeal but as I’m Polish that would be a no for me - the name sounds very similar to “torba”, which in our language mean a bag/ handbag. But since I’m guessing you’re not Polish, then go for it Grin

PetuniaPetunia · 27/03/2019 21:56

I think it's Danish (not "Scandinavian ")

nutsfornutella · 27/03/2019 21:58

I like it but the name made me think of Jeremy Corben which isn't good.

Peachbubble · 28/03/2019 07:36

I like it

ColdCottage · 28/03/2019 07:53

It's been on my name list since I had my son 4 years ago.

ThanksItHasPockets · 28/03/2019 09:31

Yes, it’s Danish, and means ‘thunder bear’, which is excellent.

julensaor · 28/03/2019 09:33

Think it's a really strong good name, having never heard of it before

Tiramisu1 · 28/03/2019 10:32

I like it!

BlueChampagne · 28/03/2019 12:51

Like it. Also like Torin.

TillyTheTiger · 28/03/2019 12:54

Makes me think of Torben Friis from Borgen, it's a good name.

Originofstars · 28/03/2019 13:10

I know a Torren, I think that's nicer

Theworldisfullofgs · 28/03/2019 13:11

I know a Torben. He's lovely.

Sessy19 · 28/03/2019 13:26

It’s quite popular in Danish men my age (30s), certainly in the Midlands (of Denmark). I LOVE this name, and it so far up my list!

CatSmize · 28/03/2019 13:49

I like it a lot!
