What are your thoughts on Willa? Do you know any?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hotterthanahotthing · 25/03/2019 08:57

I don't think your child will thank you for this one.

elQuintoConyo · 25/03/2019 09:00

Lovely.

Willa Cather immediately sprung to mind, amazing writer, wrote beautifully about American pioneers.

Yes to Willa!

ShadyLady53 · 25/03/2019 09:06

I’ve seen this name mentioned a lot in the US but never heard it pronounced out loud.

Is it “Will-uh”?

If so, I’m not very keen but probably because I live up North and the pronunciation would sound awful. In a different accent I could see it might be nice.

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 25/03/2019 09:08

I see this conversation happening an awful lot which will be incredibly annoying for her...

DD: My name is Willa

Other person: Willow?

DD: No Willa, with an 'A'

I also agree in some accents it might not sound the way that you want it to either. Sorry OP!

InterchangeableEmma · 25/03/2019 09:09

The only Willa I've ever known was officially a Wilhelmina (although it might have been a variant spelling, it was a long time ago). I think it's fab in that context but I'm less of a fan of it as a stand alone name.

Stormwhale · 25/03/2019 09:10

I like it. If it didn't sound so ridiculous with our surname it would have been a contender for dd.

WoahThereMama · 25/03/2019 09:12

I think your child will spend a lifetime correcting people that her name isn’t Willow or Wilma. That aside, Willa just isn’t a very nice name imo.

Holidayshopping · 25/03/2019 09:12

I think she was a wet nurse/servant girl in Game of Thrones-that’s the only time I’ve ever heard the name before!

RuthW · 25/03/2019 09:33

Love Willow. Not keen on Willa.

daisypond · 25/03/2019 09:50

I like it a lot, probably influenced by the amazing Willa Cather too. I prefer it to Willow.

Netflixaddiction · 25/03/2019 10:04

Sorry I’m not a fan either. I know it’s a nice middle class well to do name, but I agree I prefer willow.

sunflower332 · 25/03/2019 10:42

I like Willa. Much prettier than Willow.

ZebraKid71 · 25/03/2019 11:27

I think willa cather too.

I much prefer it to willow, however, as willow is so popular at the moment I think a willa would spend her life correcting people.

Whoops75 · 25/03/2019 11:29

I think it’s an incomplete name, Willa....

BlueMerchant · 25/03/2019 11:31

I don't like it.
Looks like you've tried to funk up Willow.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/03/2019 11:34

Hmmm, very GOT, I like it! Smile

Kokeshi123 · 25/03/2019 11:48

Makes me think of Willa-Jean in the Ramona series.... I dunno, it's not terrible but people will confuse it with "Willow."

elQuintoConyo · 25/03/2019 12:01

I have neither seen not read GoT, so wouldn't make they connection.
I much prefer it to Willow - so flaccid!

Sophronia · 25/03/2019 12:02

I like it. I’ve seen it a lot in the Telegraph BAs.

PBobs · 25/03/2019 13:14

My friend has just had a Willa. After the author I think. It's cute but not my cup of tea.

RayaJambalaya · 25/03/2019 13:58

I met a girl called Willa last year. Didn't think she said Willow because I listen properly and I think it's a gorgeous name!!

Marcipex · 25/03/2019 14:13

She'll be called Willy. I think that's pretty obvious.

sunflower332 · 25/03/2019 14:26

Are all the Williams and Wills called Willy? Maybe a few but not the majority imo

aliceandkids77 · 25/03/2019 17:15

I have never heard this name before so I think if you don't want a popular name then this would be a good choice. I'm not really a fan of it it seems a bit 'made up' to me but remember what matters is that you love it! x

AuntieStella · 25/03/2019 19:04

I know a teenage one.

I have to say it's name I'm not wild about, but I don't think it's difficult to live with.
