There are some names like Connie and Matilda.... Popular ones that I hate and just don't get.
Any names that are popular you just don't get?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cloudymelonade · 13/03/2019 15:53

@Mrssnowflake Brilliant! My stepsisters are called Sara and Nicola and their daughters are called Amelia and Olivia 😂😂😂

BeGoodTanya · 13/03/2019 16:24

Siobhan and Bernadette. And lots of other Catholic Irish names. Hmm

Arlo around here (in the sticks, Middle England) isn't remotely hipster, it's bog-standard lower-middle class. Little Arlos have Louis and George and Amelia as older siblings.

NorthernRunner · 13/03/2019 16:26

fiddle ooo I’m interested what are her sisters called (I’m well awareness I could probably google for myself) 🤷🏻‍♀️😆

sushisuperstar · 13/03/2019 16:32

I hate Hannah. I don't know why, it just makes my teeth grind. And Kayleigh.

SemperIdem · 13/03/2019 16:32

Jack - so, so dull.

Anna - as above.

Both smack of “couldn’t be bothered to give it any thought”.

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 16:33

@NorthernRunner, Thomasina and Horatia. Not to my taste.

NorthernRunner · 13/03/2019 16:36

Oh crickey no not my taste either

Moroder · 13/03/2019 16:55

Brian. Especially if he’s married to a Barbara

MistressDeeCee · 13/03/2019 17:08

Chelsea, Kylie, Michaela, Tyler, Bethany. I suppose I just don't like the sound.

& Nevaeh makes me want to scream

& super-bland men's names eg John, Kevin, Graham, Brian

fantasmasgoria1 · 13/03/2019 17:46

Fiddle, I put a full stop after etc. I didn't mean neveah to be in the old fashioned category!

RainbowWaffles · 13/03/2019 17:57

Eg Genevieve nn Ivy, just call your child Ivy ffs

I hate this too. There are always suggestions like that on MN. I find it so pretentious. A child’s nn to me seems like something that should happen organically not planned well in advance of their birth.

Hyphenated and American names too, they just sound awful. Otherwise I don’t really mind, I am indifferent to many of the names on this thread. I don’t mind the traditionally ‘posher’ sounding names in principle but the more extreme names like Hugo just don’t sit right on children not from that background. It isn’t a criticism of class, I am in no way posh enough to call my child Hugo either.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 13/03/2019 18:19

Isabel or Ella or Emilia or Emily or Lily are just so boring. A few years ago everyone was calling their baby girl Isabel, for some reason I always associate the name Isabel with having a horrible cold. Kayden and Jayden are the new Kevins.

I’d love to know which names turn up frequently in the Courts.

blueskiesovertheforest · 13/03/2019 18:29

Elle is a weird one for anyone who did any French at school at all to choose - je, tu, il, elle, nous, vous - surely everyone thinks "that isn't a name, it just means she (or it for a feminine noun" ... Ella is a bit better, but why Elle?

ElephantShrew · 13/03/2019 18:33

Ezra. Just an irrational dislike.

HighestMountains · 13/03/2019 18:34

blueskiesovertheforest I think Donna also means she (or her?) in another language (Italian?)

blueskiesovertheforest · 13/03/2019 18:40

HighestMountains I think it means woman in Italian, I didn't even think of Donna, I haven't heard that name in ages, but I knew one as a child!

BumbleBee27 · 13/03/2019 18:42

Surnames for first names...just don't get it. Cooper, Harrison, Taylor and so on. Sounds really impersonal to me, sorry.

Made up names - saw someone on Jeremy Kyle call their child Shanica or something along those lines. Poor kid has to live with that bullshit just because you wanted to be different

flowersaremyfave · 13/03/2019 19:02

Wow 193 comments and still none of my children's names are on here. Yet I see a lot of threads that eliminate one of my daughters names a lot so just waiting for it to pop up 🙈😂

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 19:04

Ah I see, @fantasmasgoria1! I think I need to find my specs, your isn't the first post I've misread! Grin

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 19:06

Brian. Especially if he’s married to a Barbara

Why am I sensing a backstory here! Wink

Couple names that make me shudder is 'Pat and Angela'. Run away if you encounter a Pat with an Angela. Solo they may be okay!

aliceelizaloves · 13/03/2019 19:11

I love Connie and Matilda!

Really dislike Luna, Wren, Willow. Just don't like the way they sound.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 13/03/2019 19:34

Any name that tells you what decade they were born.
Old people names.
Agree re Ruth sounding hard.
Specifically Thomas - turns my stomach - but love Tom. Also William but love Will.

3in4years · 13/03/2019 19:39

I had no idea my dc's names would be so disliked!
For me, drippy names like
Millie, Molly, Poppy, Floppy, Drippy...
And Tabitha

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 13/03/2019 19:49

I've never understood the whole "we'll spell it wrong and call it unique" thing. All I see is a spelling mistake.

FluffyMunchkin · 13/03/2019 21:51

Anything cutesy that I can't picture on an adult. I know there are adults with these names, I just can't come to grips with it.
Daisy, Poppy, Ruby, Millie, Dottie, Lottie
Albie, Teddy, Alfie, Archie, Ollie, Bertie

Also, Louis and Josephine. I don't know why.
