Thoughts on Tamsin?

MimiSunshine · 10/03/2019 08:41

We can’t find a single girls name we both like.
I’ve considerd Tamsin before and starting to consider it again but don’t come across it much so was wondering what others thought of it?

Classic
Dated?
A bit ‘posh’ in a good or a bad way?
Common

Etc etc

Our DD is P ene lope so want a name that has a similar feel to that which to me is
Classic
Feminine but not too girly
Known but not overly common
Don’t mind the ‘its a bit posh’ comments we got in the early days

I quite like it, it goes well with Penelope. It sounds timeless to me, would suit all ages, it's not too commonly used but still a recognised name.

Sessy19 · 10/03/2019 09:14

I don’t think of Tamsin as a classic, as such. But I certainly don’t think it’s dated. It’s pretty, feminine, and tuneful. But not twee or sickly.

I think it goes really well with your DD’s name xx

Starface · 10/03/2019 09:15

Gorgeous name. Go for it.

Teacakequeen · 10/03/2019 09:16

I really like it. I think it goes very well with Penelope

IdaBWells · 10/03/2019 09:18

Tamsin is a great name and not used very often. I know some people are concerned she would be nicknamed Tammy but I have never met a Tamsin who was called Tammy.

I think it has Cornish roots and was originally Tamzin?

MonaChopsis · 10/03/2019 09:20

Love this name!!

MimiSunshine · 10/03/2019 09:21

Thanks both.

DP definitely prefers what I think of as ‘twee / sickly’ names.
Nearly everything he’s suggested have ended in Belle / Bella.

Mainly lovely names other than the recent suggestion of Clarabella ffs but just more ‘girly’ than I’d like.

I could possibly get on board with Anabel if we go for the least fussy spelling.
Which do you prefer?

Just be aware that she will spend her life correcting people 😂
Just going to drop myself in it, I get compliments all the time on my name.
I got Tammy when I was in school and my gran calls me it sometimes but apart from that it’s always been Tamsin.
I really like it, it’s not common but not too unusual that it’s weirs if that makes sense

MimiSunshine · 10/03/2019 09:22

@IdaBWells do quite like the Z spelling too 🤔

@Stardustmemories correcting people how?

DP has said Tasmin a couple of times 🙄

@MimiSunshine

Just the pronunciation. Every supply teacher would say it wrong it and it’s actually a shock when someone says/spells it correctly the first time 😂.
I’ve also had Jasmine a few times 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

DurhamDurham · 10/03/2019 09:32

My friend is Tamsin, people call her Tasmin all the time and it drives her mad.

FogCutter · 10/03/2019 09:38

Lovely name. I know a Tamsin who goes by Tam. Never Tammy!

Munchkin08 · 10/03/2019 10:36

Really nice

Tamsyn143 · 10/03/2019 10:45

I prefer it spelt Tamsyn !

Fedoos · 10/03/2019 10:45

I really like it. It's been a name we've talked about this time round. I was surprised how little it seems to be used.

youarenotkiddingme · 10/03/2019 10:51

I know a Tamsin. She's great! I always think it's quite classic but I'd never heard of it before and have only ever met the 1!

Susannach · 10/03/2019 10:54

I really like it!

Also like Annabel (Anabel spelling is much less common and will be a pain).

How about Imogen, Merryn, Morven, Caroline, Delphine, Sabine, Esther, Marianne?

leafinthewind · 10/03/2019 10:55

I've seen it spelled Tamasin too. I love Tamsin though. (But she will get Tasmin'ed by people who read too fast...)

leafinthewind · 10/03/2019 10:55

Meredith?

HeronLanyon · 10/03/2019 10:55

I too would say tasmin every now and then. For some reason (my problem obvs) it’s a name I find tricky. No doubt partly because it is not common - I don’t know a Tamsin.
I definitely don’t think of it as a classic name.

HeronLanyon · 10/03/2019 10:57

Oops pressed post early - might you end up (despite all efforts) with penny and Tammy??

VioletCharlotte · 10/03/2019 11:01

I've always liked the name Tamsin. I knew a couple of Tamsin's when I was at senior school (early 90's) and they were both lovely. It's underused imo.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 10/03/2019 11:06

I'm a Tamzin, only very occasionally Gsm and never Tammy.
I like it. It's unusual enough that I never met more than a couple of other Tamzins in my last 40 years!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 10/03/2019 11:06

Tan not Gsm
