I'm really confused between these two names! I want to choose a unique name which is fairly uncommon. Help appreciated :)

Have never heard of Iria. How do you pronounce it?

chiarazuri · 08/03/2019 22:06

It's a greek name, pronounced 'i' (like the i in 'it') -'rea'...

A variant of Iris.

Kyra because no-one will know how to pronounce Iria and a lifetime of having to tell someone how to pronounce your name is no fun (bitter experience).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/03/2019 22:41

Kyra is gorgeous.

chiarazuri · 08/03/2019 23:08

Thanks! I am leaning more towards kyra at the moment as it's more well known and easier to pronounce. I think Iria has quite a harsh sound to it? I still like it though as it's a unique version or Iris.

I actually prefer Iria BUT I pronounced it Ir-eye-a before I saw your clarification! Any thoughts on the Greek name Eirini? pronounced Ee-reen-ee in Greek or more likely Eye-reen-ee in English.

chiarazuri · 09/03/2019 01:10

That's a really lovely alternative, thanks for the suggestion :) I'm just worried that both iria and eirini make me think of "ironic". Will probably go for Kyra...

Kyra. But Lyra is better

Cbeebiesrehab · 09/03/2019 07:18

Iria is just Aria with an I-it’s not that difficult to work out. I like it and much prefer it to Kyra.

VelvetPineapple · 09/03/2019 07:26

Kyra, so there’s no misunderstanding. I’d assume Iria was a typo for Iris.

Sessy19 · 09/03/2019 07:57

They’re both very pretty. I know a Kyra....she’s a bit brash and course, but she’s very pretty! 😊

Melonwater · 09/03/2019 08:32

How about Irini or Aria?

MercyBodle · 09/03/2019 08:48

I prefer Kyra.

MollyHuaCha · 09/03/2019 09:10

I'm not keen on either. Will involve a lifetime of spelling out the name.

RayaJambalaya · 09/03/2019 09:57

I love Kyra but much prefer is spelt Kaira Smile

JenSFP · 09/03/2019 10:26

I’ve never heard of iria but like it! It’s pretty and strong.

JenSFP · 09/03/2019 10:26

Aria also beautiful

chiarazuri · 09/03/2019 10:47

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! :) Iria is growing on me!

Love Iria....then suddenly thought it sounds like 'A rear'? damn

TheMuminator2 · 09/03/2019 11:09

Now am thinking of 'irie' in jamiacan lol Still love the name

chiarazuri · 09/03/2019 11:46

Thanks for the feedback!:) if you saw the name Iria, how would you pronounce it?

OP posts:
chiarazuri · 09/03/2019 11:56

Would you say "Eye-ria" or "I-ria" and which sounds nicer?

OP posts:
BlueMerchant · 09/03/2019 12:01

Eye-ria sounds like diarrhea.Sorry.

chiarazuri · 09/03/2019 12:21

That's a good point! Will probably stick to i-rea then to avoid that association Hmm
