Sister to Marnie. I like it (Roxy Music, Arthurian times, apples, islands etc) in theory but something puts me off. Is it too close to "Avon"? Does it sound like a detergent or UPVC window manufacturer? Gah! Confused

My first thought was Roxy Music but I actually quite like it.

PuzzlingPuzzle · 25/02/2019 20:29

It’s a no from me but then Avalon Park is a neighbourhood in my city that usually only gets a mention when a shooting there makes the local news.

SleeplessAndHopeless · 25/02/2019 20:32

Oh God, just realised it's the name of a comedy agency/production company. That's why it's in my brain. All I can see is the logo now. Back to the drawing board...

I like it, it’s strong and pretty at the same time. Dont let that production co put you off op. There is always sonething you can find wrong if you look hard enough.

Refilona · 25/02/2019 20:39

What about Morgana?

Sakura7 · 25/02/2019 20:42

It's the name of an aircraft leasing company.

MumUnderTheMoon · 25/02/2019 20:43

It's a lovely name.

breadwidow · 25/02/2019 20:46

Glad you've gone off it, it's awful

NuffSaidSam · 25/02/2019 21:13

It's also a brand of shampoo/bath stuff

Sexnotgender · 25/02/2019 21:15

My immediate thought was it sounds like an antiseptic but that’s savalon I think. Either way not a fan.

Quintella · 25/02/2019 21:18

I love that song and I love the Arthurian link. The kind of name a posh 1970s hippy would give their daughter.

ReaganSomerset · 25/02/2019 21:23

Is there a song that goes, 'Avalon. Why, w-w-why, why, why?'

moomin4071 · 25/02/2019 21:23

Makes me think if the cream Savlon

CarrieBlu · 25/02/2019 21:25

Yep, made me think of Savlon too.

Babylon. David Gray.

BlueMerchant · 25/02/2019 21:33

Marnie is so lovely. Great name.
Avalon.....is not!

ReaganSomerset · 25/02/2019 21:39

@donquixotedelamancha

Thank you! That was driving me mad.

Nnnnnineteen · 25/02/2019 22:47

I know an Avalon in her 30s. She is very beautiful, very feisty and just awesome. Known as Ava as a nn.

Kokeshi123 · 26/02/2019 00:44

It sounds like a brand of nipple cream to me, but I see you have already ditched the idea! How about Avril?

CarrieBlu · 26/02/2019 05:57

Avocet as an alternative?

Steamfan · 26/02/2019 06:11

Avalon's a bus company isn't it?

gauntletthrown · 26/02/2019 06:25

If you like the Arthurian thing then what about Morgan / Morgana or Gwen?

calsovip · 26/02/2019 07:09

Sorry, but to me Avalon sounds like a name better suited for an industrial company.

MsTSwift · 26/02/2019 08:01

Marnie is a fab name. Avalon not so much. To me it screams “my parents are wannabe hippies”. Poor kid

daisypond · 26/02/2019 08:06

I rather like it and I think it works - Arthurian myths and all that. If the occasional company uses it as a name, so what? That's because it has a classic timeless mythic appeal. It's no different to Eden, for example.
