Thoughts on Shay

Shay for a boy - could it sound ‘chavvy’? Do you know any?
Siblings Rafe and Milo, still struggling for a third boy’s name that I like.

I have a list of a few names, not really sure on any! Otis is probably my fave atm from that list.

Love the name Shay.
There’s an Irish name Séadhna (pronounces Shay na). I think it’s such a cool name and they can use the nn Shay.
(It might be a bit too unusual if you’re not Irish).

pilates · 21/02/2019 21:57

Shay is awful sorry, Otis sounds better with Rafe and Milo

Bouchie · 21/02/2019 21:59

Personally I think Shay will be much cooler than Milo, who though very lovely is slightly geeky Grin

Divgirl2 · 21/02/2019 22:00

The only Shay I know is a tracksuit wearing chavvy little turd. I'm the first to admit he has spoilt the name for me, although I'm not sure if I really liked it before.

Definitely don't think it goes with Rafe and Milo. I imagine their brother would be Dominic/Hugo/Dexter whereas I would see Shay being brothers with Kai and Jayden.

Jamhandprints · 21/02/2019 22:01

Seems to depend if your Irish. If not, Shay is a hoodie up, trainers to school, lightening bolt shaved into hair kind of name.

lottiegarbanzo · 21/02/2019 22:02

Totally different syle to your other two.

How about Seth?

PeppermintCactus · 21/02/2019 22:02

I would go for Seamus but nn Stay.

WhiteDust · 21/02/2019 22:06

Oh God yes. Shay will grow up to be a gorgeous, kind man like the two I know! The name goes perfectly with Rafe & Milo and he will never be in their shadow!

lottiegarbanzo · 21/02/2019 22:13

Shay makes me think of a heavy, slow carthorse. Similarly Jethro.

Wakk · 21/02/2019 22:41

The ones I know are called Shane, Shay for short

I think it's dreadful! Che would be slightly better.

Kokeshi123 · 21/02/2019 23:45

Che Guevara.

Seamus is better?

Antonin · 22/02/2019 00:37

Otis is fine and goes with Rafe and Milo but wouldn’t be my first choice.
I’d prefer Hugo or Asa or Heath

Antonin · 22/02/2019 00:39

I don’t like Shay at all. Very chavvy and I’ve never met a person called that but have known several cats

Quintella · 22/02/2019 11:17

Is there such thing as a chavvy cat?

Ipanema01 · 22/02/2019 22:27

Ok, too many votes for chav so it’s off the list!

OP posts:
Wakk · 22/02/2019 23:50

My cat's a right chav. Stays out all hours with his mates hanging round the alleyways.

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/02/2019 00:00

I know one spelled Sé. Not chavvy.

Whoops75 · 23/02/2019 00:06

Shay NOT Shea or worse Chey

It’s a class retro name, I love it.
Otis has had its day

I like Seamas (that's Scottish Gaelic spelling; Irish language spelling is Seamus, I think. Like Seamus Heaney.).
Che Guevara's name was a nickname. His real name was Ernesto (not at all bad, but needs a certain swagger to cope with).

Meadows I don't know where in Ireland your son will be growing up, but I'd strongly suggest giving him the whole name (Seamus) then he and/or his mates can choose the most locally-approriate short version.

scottishnames · 20/12/2021 17:38

Meadows definitely not Shea - that's a tropical plant ol used in cosmetics.
Se (with an acute accent on the e, which I can't do on this machine) would be pronounced 'Shay'.
