Shay for a boy - could it sound ‘chavvy’? Do you know any?
Siblings Rafe and Milo, still struggling for a third boy’s name that I like.

I have a list of a few names, not really sure on any! Otis is probably my fave atm from that list.

As for the name itself it's a solid dependable kind of name. Shay would be able to plough a field by hand, have a quick sandwich and then build a table from an old oak tree

This could actually describe the Shaye I know 😂

Quintella · 21/02/2019 14:52

Sounds like a gangster rapper, thats fine if that rocks your boat. I am thinking about job prospects.

True.

The fields of Monaghan are full of aimless gangster rappers.

Parthenope · 21/02/2019 14:53

Rafe and Milo would be the kinds of names your average Shay would think of as being very fancy indeed.

Indeed. Grin My God, though, look at the post-Twiggy coolness of Mrs Shay!

kenandbarbie · 21/02/2019 14:57

Isn't it spelled Se (but with a fada) in Irish? How about that?

Parthenope · 21/02/2019 14:57

The fields of Monaghan are full of aimless gangster rappers.

Now, I think anyone would admit that what Monaghan really needs is a few lorryloads of aimless gangster rappers. Distributed around, so no townland misses out on theirs.

Quintella · 21/02/2019 14:59

It would certainly jazz the place up a bit. Get it out of its Patrick Kavanagh rut.

Cosmoa · 21/02/2019 14:59

I love Shay 💕

pallisers · 21/02/2019 15:01

For me it is the male equivalent of Nuala.

ChipsAreLife · 21/02/2019 15:36

I know a Sheagh (pronounced Shay) he's very cool! I really like it

Parthenope · 21/02/2019 15:44

It is exactly the male equivalent of Nuala.

Springwalk · 21/02/2019 15:47

quin Monaghan will never be the same again trust me...

Threenager · 21/02/2019 15:48

Sorry not a fan of shay, other names I think may suit rafe and milo:
Luca
Eli (pronounced eee-lie)
Roux
Beau
Felix

YoghurtTopper · 21/02/2019 18:26

Shea would be pn She wouldn't it?

I like Shay. I only know it as a middle name, one boy, one girl, and suits both.

Nice name, much better than Otis, which just sounds like a dogs name.

Ipanema01 · 21/02/2019 18:55

This thread Grin
Can’t have Shay feeling like he doesn’t measure up to Rafe and Milo...!

DramaAlpaca · 21/02/2019 19:56

I'm laughing at 'the male equivalent of Nuala.' So very true.

Ipanema01 · 21/02/2019 21:07

Is Nuala hated on here?

OP posts:
Quintella · 21/02/2019 21:12

I think Cathal is the male equivalent of Nuala. They'd be up doing the stations of the cross together.

Shay is more likely to play poker than pray Grin

Alison100199 · 21/02/2019 21:14

Poor Shay. Always in the shadow of his more glamourous, cultured siblings, Milo and Rafe. Always second best.

Supersoaker10 · 21/02/2019 21:15

I know a Shay but it's spelt Chay

DramaAlpaca · 21/02/2019 21:17

OP, it's just that Nuala is seen as very old fashioned indeed in Ireland.

C0untDucku1a · 21/02/2019 21:21

Can’t believe shay given got a mention! Blackburn or Newcastle fan?

I like it, but Otis is a better sibling name.

zenasfuck · 21/02/2019 21:24

I have a Seamus who uses shay

Obviously I think it's a great name 😁

Parthenope · 21/02/2019 21:30

Nuala is the Irish equivalent of I don't know Gladys? Brenda? Mavis? Mildred? Edna?

RosieEffect · 21/02/2019 21:32

I like Shaye. I know one and think it's a lovely name.

Other options are: Ezra, Huxley, Archer

I couldn't do Milo and Otis. Those were the names of best friend cat and a dog on a children's programme growing up!

I know a child called Shae. Afraid they are a bit chavvy if I'm honest. Nice people though.

Not keen on Otis, but I'm a lover of boring old traditional English names.
