Love these boy names so much but no one else does I know they are dated but come on Alan's a lovely name is it not? Confused

no, it really really isn't Grin

sometimes names go out of fashion for a reason!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 15/02/2019 16:22

I went to school with an Alan, it did seem dates even then!

I quite like Terence but not Terry.

Cookit · 15/02/2019 16:28

Alan to me is a 50-65 year old man whereas Terry is probably 75 years old.

anitagreen · 15/02/2019 16:29

I don't know what is wrong with me honestly but your replies have made me smile I just really love older names Blush

But then if I have an Alan people might think ah that's really nice let's bring that name back? I'm clutching at straws aren't I Grin

On the face of it Alan is actually a really nice name. You just can't get away from Alan Partridge though...

SoupDragon · 15/02/2019 16:32

Alan isn't too bad but Terry is dreadful. I'm not sure either is ready for a revival though.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 15/02/2019 16:32

Permission to blame the hormones.

pilates · 15/02/2019 16:33

Noooooo

AfterSchoolWorry · 15/02/2019 16:33

What about Aaron....

PinkSocks89 · 15/02/2019 16:33

Alan is my dads name and Terry (Terrance) is my grandads so cookit is bang on! I love both of these names but Alan maybe needs another generation before it becomes popular!

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 15/02/2019 16:34

I wanted to call the cat Alan. Dh wouldn't let me Grin

anitagreen · 15/02/2019 16:36

@ShakeYourTailFeathers ours is called Tony there's just something so funny about human names for pets lol

I LOVE terry. It sounds really cute. Alan I reckon needs 10 years but you could be a front runner. Do it OP!

Disfordarkchocolate · 15/02/2019 16:39

I really like Alan, Terry makes me think of Minder so that's a no for me.

DuggeeHugs · 15/02/2019 16:40

I like the spelling Alain. Not keen on Terry because I would constantly be thinking of chocolate oranges

StellaRae · 15/02/2019 16:41

I think Alan is fine, but not Terry - sorry!

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 15/02/2019 16:43

Tony is an awesome name for a cat Grin

aliceandkids77 · 15/02/2019 16:44

personally I really don't care for Alan, but think Terry is alright, even though they are both slightly old-people names imo. x

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 15/02/2019 16:44

I met a baby Alan recently - I liked it, and he was rocking his name. However the consensus on a recent thread was that people in general are not yet ready for "Baby Alan".

I think some footballer recently called his son Terry (a proper name for once) and everyone went [hmmm]. I thought it was great!

halfwitpicker · 15/02/2019 16:45

God no

Littlefish · 15/02/2019 16:47

Both awful.

Marylou2 · 15/02/2019 16:47

I have a cactus named Keith. I might get another and call it Terry.

pennycarbonara · 15/02/2019 16:52

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Alan Partridge.
Alan = Alan Partridge to so many people and the character is well known enough now that it wouldn't be surprising if he was still famous in 10-15 years. Too much of a burden for a kid; you'd need a quick wit to deal with it and not everyone has that.

Terry probably not as bad (when I was at school Terry Nutkins might have meant some dodgy nicknames) but there's Terry's Chocolate Orange to contend with, which might be the only other time kids hear the name regularly.

It's the associations not the names themselves.

Hollowvictory · 15/02/2019 16:53

Is this a joke. If so it's a bad one.
