Not keen on Alan, but love Terence. Bot do keen on Terry.

SlimGin · 15/02/2019 17:26

I think they names are nice looking and sounding names, it's just a shame they're associated with much older people. I know a younger Terry so it doesn't seem too old to me! Go for it!

Biancadelrioisback · 15/02/2019 17:26

I love old names too, I would go for Terry. I love it

amrscot · 15/02/2019 17:27

No OP

MissWimpyDimple · 15/02/2019 17:31

Alan! I know a young (12 year old) Alan and it's a good name! It'll make a come back.

Terry not so much

spreadingchestnuttree · 15/02/2019 17:34

I think Alan sounds really nice if you forget its image! And Al would be a nice shortened version.

Not so keen on Terry / Terence personally.

Corneliusmurphy · 15/02/2019 17:41

I love Terry, I know a teen of that name, a couple of people in their 30s as well as some in their 60s.
Alan not so much, really can’t imagine a baby Alan though I did meet a baby Brian recently which, imo, is far worse!

I like them both

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/02/2019 17:49

How about Paul, John, Barry, Gary, Dennis? Hmm

Threewheeler1 · 15/02/2019 17:55

SmileGrin
Don't forget Neil, Ian, Trev, Adrian and Jeff!
(I'm actually married to one of those but I'm sure he'll forgive me...Grin)

Paddingtonthebear · 15/02/2019 17:57

Alan Partridge. Ah haaaaa!

YouBumder · 15/02/2019 17:57

Jesus Christ no.

My dad’s called Terry (Terence) and while he’s one of the greatest people in the universe I’d never saddle a child with that as a name!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/02/2019 17:58

Alan. My dad was an Alan named after Alan Ladd who my nan was on.Grin

Paddingtonthebear · 15/02/2019 17:58

And I’m guessing you mean Terry Tibbs “talk to me!”

Terry or Alan talk to me?
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/02/2019 17:59

I quite like Terrence but only in its entirety. I can't stand Terry.

bubblegumbottles · 15/02/2019 18:00

My dad's name is Alan and I love him dearly, I would totally choose that as a name!

ShadyLady53 · 15/02/2019 18:01

I’ve taught two Alans under the age of 11 recently. Both seemed like “little old men”, struggled to fit in and join in play with their peers and I wondered if they were living up to their name. Quite a few members of staff said out loud “who looks at a baby and thinks ALAN these days?” and felt quite sorry that they’d been landed with such an old fashioned name.

Terry is better but still very dated.

BlueWonder · 15/02/2019 18:02

Aled?

2019Dancerz · 15/02/2019 18:03

I think it’s a lovely name but it’s lovely on older people, sorry. My age, basically.

GreysAddict · 15/02/2019 18:08

Hi I'm new to this whole forum so I'm just gonna pray I dont fluff it and delete everything I type or something.

I have an uncle called Terry and Alan... sounds like an old man?
Reggie is a cute name?

Threenanger · 15/02/2019 18:10

No sorry.... we are not ready for Alan and terry yet!!

Cookit · 15/02/2019 18:14

Threewheeler1 I don’t understand why you left Nigel out??

Stinkytoe · 15/02/2019 18:16

To be honest OP they’re not to my taste but I’d rather an Alan or a Terry to a Kai or a Jayden.

The only Alan I’ve ever known was a lovely man.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 15/02/2019 18:17

My Dad is called Terrance (Terry) and he despises his name.
