Harvey

Does anyone have any thoughts? Baby boy expected any day now and we’ve struggled to agree on a boy’s name at any point during the pregnancy.
We half agreed on Ryan but I wasn’t sure. I wanted Oliver but OH doesn’t like it.
I’m just not sure I love Harvey. But it was mentioned on a tv show (the Australian yummy mummy one Blush) and OH was quite taken!
The only other person I’ve mentioned it to was my mum who mentioned something about a giant rabbit from a film in the 50s!

I know a few Harveys, and they’re all lovely boys.
But if you don’t love it, could you name a child it?

Mynameisnotthis · 12/02/2019 21:26

I think I could...mainly as I don’t have an alternative! The only name I wanted was Oliver but I really hadn’t realised it was the most popular boy’s name.
With my little girl we had a name picked early on but I changed my mind the day before she was born.

I have a Harvey. He’s 8. I was the same as you, I didn’t love it but my DH did. I liked it and as I had chosen our first sons name, I felt it was fair to go with it. Anyway, now I love it. He really suits it. I only know two Harveys and they are both lovely lovely little chaps 😊

Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your son!

Crushedvelvetcouch · 12/02/2019 21:28

To me it is a rabbit's name, God knows why but it reminds me of a man with buck teeth.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/02/2019 21:29

Love Harvey- so cute and yet distinguished when older
Ryan i can’t bear

WoahBodyforrrm · 12/02/2019 21:31

I nick named my Harvey ‘Kinkle’ for years as the only other Harvey I’d heard of was Harvey Kinkle from Sabrina.

He’s no longer Kinkle, he’s Lord Milkingtons, My Chocolate Brownie, Baby Wilson or Tough Cookie Wilson.

I really must see the film about the rabbit. I heard a lot about it from those older then me when we first named him! Thanks for reminding me to watch it.

confusedandcrazymother · 12/02/2019 21:31

Not to my taste sorry.

LionsHeart · 12/02/2019 21:33

Instead of Harvey or Oliver, what about Harley or Oakley?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 12/02/2019 21:33

Harvey Weinstein...

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/02/2019 21:35

It's a nice name.

Mynameisnotthis · 12/02/2019 21:38

Haha @WoahBodyforrrm you’re welcome. I’d never heard of it and had to google but mum said when she asked at work they all knew about the rabbit. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was a long time ago tho! I think this one might be a lovely lovely little chap too Grin
Thanks for the congrats!

Thanks for the other thoughts too. I feel a bit sad for the wee one that I don’t really have strong feelings for any names for him. It’s such a big responsibility!
Also considered aiden. But again not sure. Wahhhh it’s toooo hard!

Oh sorry x posted with a few there! Harley and Oakley are nice names but a bit too ‘different’ for us I think.
I had actually considered the Weinstein thing but discounted any concerns cos, well, there are many arseholes with many names out there!

Riley? Kinda like Ryan and Harvey?

ree348 · 12/02/2019 21:47

I love Harvey!

AstonMartini · 12/02/2019 21:49

Harvey is not my cup of tea. Oliver is popular because it's a nice name with no particular 'class' connotations. Unlike Ryan and Aiden.

DramaAlpaca · 12/02/2019 21:50

Nope, not my thing.

Mynameisnotthis · 12/02/2019 21:52

Riley is a great name 3out! But one of my best friends has a Riley.

Ryan and Aiden have class connotations? Well blow me down, who knew that was a thing?!
Wonder what that says about me ShockWink

Harvey is a surname.

Sessy19 · 12/02/2019 21:52

Katie Price’s first son. Nothing wrong with the name at all, but her other children have funny names!! 😳

I also think of PJ Harvey and someone from the ‘90s pop group East 17...although they’re surnames so don’t really count...just name association 😊

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/02/2019 21:53

Have you considered:

Bodie
Lachlan
Joby
Albie
Otis
Lewis

???

AstonMartini · 12/02/2019 21:55

Well, they do. So does Riley. If you were proposing to call your DS Sholto or Horatio or Augustus (disclaimer: I used one of these), the MN jury would probably also say these had class connotations.

If you want something that won't attract comment, anything like Henry, George, Oliver, Thomas etc would be fine. All nice, solid names.

3out · 12/02/2019 22:00

Robbie?
Finlay?
Murray?
Archie?

Jenacles · 12/02/2019 22:09

I would think of the James Stewart film - Harvey is a giant invisible rabbit!

But it's a nice film and a lovely name - I would go for it

greathat · 12/02/2019 22:33

I had a rabbit called Harvey. It was a moody fucker

Sophronia · 12/02/2019 23:12

Not keen. Makes me think of Harvey Weinstein and Katie Price.
